Ok, one is handmade in Sweden in laminate VG-10, the other is mass produced in Japan using laminated VG-1 (I have no previous experiece with this steel). I expect a higher quality of fit and finish from the Swedish blade, but I really love the classical American Bowie looks on the Cold Steel knife. But it the end what matters is actual performance.

Does anybody here know how do they compare as far as chopping wood goes? How's the edge holding and toughness on each blade? Which one has a better edge profile for a large camping duty knife?

Thanks in advance.

I'd say the the Fallkniven. The Laredo is made for combat.

Most others will say Fallkniven because Cold Steel is involved.

Fallkniven company may be based in Sweden, but the knives are made in Japan.

The Thor is a slightly longer and slightly thinner version of a Cold Steel Trailmaster.

The closest comparison would be between a Thor in VG10 and a San Mai Trailmaster in VG-1.

Japan is the Sole Distributer of VG-10
the ONLY way they allow the steel out of Japan is in Knife form
so unless they take apart other knives that they have shipped back I highly doubt that it is fully hand made maybe the handle

Perhaps they are forged in Japan, and then shipped to Sweden to go through heat-treatment, assembling, hand-sharpering and final touch ups.
