I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the cold steel 38UW UWK or the SOG tec Bowie. I am looking at buying one for hiking, fishing and my other outdoor adventures. Which do you guys recommend?

I got rid of my UWK wouldn't hold an edge. Get the SOG.
The Gov Tac is great steel too, AUS 8.

If you can afford it..Fallkniven A1 is superb!
Timberline Zambezi is very stout with good steel..440C.
For a true bargain, the Becker BK7 can't be beat.

One more little beauty (that's handy around camp or in a canoe) is the 4" Kershaw Echo. I luv that little blade!

Now that the UWK is made out of Carbon V it should be a little nicer. Though I'd probably stick with the SOG if I could only have one. If I could afford both, I'd buy both and deside which I liked best.

rowdy27, I agree with you, the Echo is a sweet knife. comfortable in the hand, slices food great and holds a good edge. Love the little recurve too.

I have a Daggert 1, and really like it. The new generation of SOG fixed blades look and feel great. I have the Tech-Bowie on my short list. At first I was hesitant about the rubber like handle material, but once I held the knife and felt just how firm the handle is I was sold. Btw, the black blade coating looks really good, but I've not had an opportunity to use the Daggert to see how well the coating stands up. Definately the SOG Tech-Bowie!!

Hmmnn. It appears we are comparing a $50 knife to a $200 model. If fit & finish is what you are after go with the SOG - but you will pay for it. If it is strength & toughness you want, go with the $50 UWK in Carbon V steel

So basicly for the $40 difference( i found a website that sells it for $94) i should go for the sog. Thanks guys
