Cold Steel AD-15 spring is loud - solutions?

Loving my AD-15 OD green so far, but every time I raise the aluminum bar, the spring creeks like an old barstool, and every time it returns to closed, it squeaks as well. I’m hesitant to lube the spring as it’s so snugly jammed into that space, but would this be a solution? Is this common for the ad-15? It’s not the end of the world, but it’s pretty loud and it does take away from the presentation of the knife. Any suggestions appreciated

Have had 3 regular ones and one Lite (still have one of each), and none of them made any noise. I would certainly try lubing it and see if that helps. Also, before doing that, maybe try loosening the spring screw and see if that makes any difference.

when I loosen the spring screw, it makes the action smoother, but doesn't lessen the sound. Would mineral oil be an appropriate lube to use? I try to use food safe materials as I use the blade for food pretty often. Thanks!

Heres a screenshot of Nick Shabazz's AD15 disassembly video. If the actual spring is making the noise, trying to lube it from the outside may not work, as the spring is pretty well encapsulated by the scales and liners. Don't know your comfort level with disassembly, but it would allow access to the spring, and also afford a good look at everything else to see if there's any obvious issues that may account for the noise. Maybe the spring is broken, but it's held so well in that channel that it still works fine, but a sharp edge is dragging on something and causing the noise.

I called cold steel after being unable to solve the spring noise and they told me that even tho I bought it new, they weren’t fixing any knives unless they were purchased from major retailers like Wal mart or bass pro. I didn’t have experience with cold steel‘s customer service before the GSM sale but this was pretty disappointing. this seems like something people should know.

Try asking to speak with a manager. And have the warranty in hand.

So are they expecting people to keep their receipts? Maybe I’m missing something, but how else would I prove where I bought one of their knives?

What? That's insane. Did you buy it from an authorized dealer, or did it come from ebay?

did they at the end ask you if you'd leave them a 5 star google review like they did me.😄

I bought it from a small retailer with a physical shop but I ordered it online - I don’t even want service necessarily, I just wanted them to take a look at it and assess it for me. It was very disappointing but I don’t want to simply wrote off cold steel over one incident. I’m waiting for a second ad-15 to arrive (amazon had some crazy sale on prime day) and I’m hoping the comparison will help me determine the issue. I’ll try calling again then. I only recently got into collecting and it is a little disappointing to be so excited about the CS train just as it seems to be leaving the station tho…
