I purchased a new cold steel AK-47 for a fathers day gift to myself.
After years of Spyderco, Benchmade and Kershaw I gave in.
This is my grail folder. The grip is absolutely amazing. The Tri-ad lock has got to be the most reliable lock on the market besides the axis. And there is absolutely no blade play and yet super smooth.
After thinking that the para mili, zt 0300, sebbie were what I was looking for.
This is what finally did it for me.

Thanks Cold steel.
More to come

Hard not to love the AK-47. It's one of the strongest folders on the market, and its short blade is offset by its high hollow grind and awesome ergonomics. And then there's that aircraft grade 6061 aluminum pommel...

I do love carrying mine.

the mini ak is the most uncomfortable knife ive ever held other than a boker magnum fixed blade that has professionally sharpened handle scales and i was quite sad when i actually held one because i really wanted it. the regular model was in g 10 with the ultra lock looked much better, i miss the blood groove and some other cosmetic features but the modern one is still definately great. it was my first tri ad lock and the blade chipped out about size of a penny when doing some wood work :( the mysterious part is it did not hold an edge nearly as long as the ka bar mule or crkt m16 d with are also in aus 8 and did not experience damage. the broken part had no air pockets or crystalization and was not defective. i would definately buy another one though because its still awesome. i wonder, why id it so much ore than the recon 1 which is the same thing but looks different? 100 compared to 65ish if i remember.

Yours probably was defective, you should send it back to Cold Steel, great customer service.

Not sure about the price. The large is what I own, U should send it back. Ive worked the edge back a little and the edge has been extremely tough and holds an edge great,
Price brand new was 70 shipped . Best deal ive ever gotten. And a few months in the lock up is perfect. The recon and the AK are absolutely different knives. I prefer the AK blade shape, thumb disk. And overall awesome grip and one of the most comfortable knives ive ever owned. Not sure about the mini, post a pic maybe. This thread was about love and you filled it with sadness lol.

Please contact our customer services team and let them know about this.
I would recommend sending the knife to us with a detailed description of what happened
I'm sure that our team will do all that they can to help

if you were talking to me, i sent it in and it was returned to me with some tootsie pops, a percentage off of another purchase which from cold steels website wasnt near as cheap as say amazon would be without the discount. i no longer have it

as i said the steel looked sound. same as broken scrap pieces i demolished to see how tough it was, had a light grey color and it was a solid pice, not crystalized and no air pockets. it was a red wood, i could have torqued it wrong. a thick edge doesnt cut well, i dont blame the knife design. im not saying id say no to a free replacement which wont happen since i dont currently have it any longer, but im not upset at cold steels product. its not like i can just go out into my garage and whip ona them out, that hoss is pretty marvelous when you think about what knives used to be made of. a stick and a rock. :p

IM sorry! HAPPY!!! :p

different strokes, i dont think the ak mini shouldnt be made or anything. i love the mini recon one, and the full size of both :)

I have an AK-47, I bought it because I wanted the features of my Espada (G10, thumb plate, tri-ad) in something that was a bit more EDC friendly. I'm by no means a hard user, the worst I've done is roll the edge at one point which was easily fixed by using a 10k grit stone as a steel to straighten it, and then polishing the edge again on a 3k grit.

It is sharp, and I keep it that way with regular hones on the 3k. Just a few cuts into the stone and the edge is almost razor like.

Cold Steel, you guys make some of THE BEST knives out there, and you seem to have wonderful customer service, thank you. But why, oh why, will they NOT send me a new catalog after about a dozen phone calls, emails requesting one on the Special Projects site, and generally asking every few months?? It can be sent here, I will get it- F.D. 108 Cedar Terrace SEVIERVILLE, TN 37862.

I'm not sure, maybe we are out of catalogs right now and awaiting a print run...
I'll take a look and try to find out for you

Yes, we are out of stock and waiting for a new print run.
I sent you the catalog from my desk so you don't need to wait any longer
Thanks for your patience, that should be with you in a few days :)

Totally love the AK. I've bought 3 so far. Got one for my brother and tried it out. After that got one for me. Gave that one to a friend and missed it; so I got another one for me! . I love that the overall length of the knife is about the same as the Recon 1. Well done CS
