The Cold steel AK-47, should I get it, or not?

I won't be spending much for it, I'm trading in another knife and only spending 20 bucks to get it. But I want to know what you guys think of it. It will be the all black with the G-10 handle. Looks good to me, and it feels nice. I will pick it up tonight unless you guys tell me otherwise.

The Grivory pommel is really ugly to me.
Other than that, seems good, and it looks okay once the pommel is ground off.
Go for it if it's cheap.

IMO, it's one of the ugliest knives I've ever seen. Looks very big too. I'm sure it's of decent quality, so if you like it and can get a deal on it, go for it.

What knife are you trading in on it?

$20? Go for it! If you end up not liking it, you can always sell it, or trade it off. You can't lose. Let us know how things work out. Use it for a while, then post a review. Good luck.

Since this is being put in my "big knife" area, I will be trading a big knife for it. It is a CRKT M21-14 that I picked up a few days ago. The shop owner is going to let me go in today and just pay the difference for the AK-47. Seems like a good deal to me. If you look at the MSRP, the AK is about 40-50 dollars more than the CRKT M21-14.

This will be carried when I need a knife to beat up and not feel guilty about it. I do like G-10 a lot, so that is half the reason why I'm going for the AK, the handle feels great in the hand, but at the time of my earlier purchase my funds weren't high enough for the AK. The only thing I'm wondering now is how the pommel is going to look sticking out above my pocket when it's clipped.

I can't remember where I saw the picture, but someone cut the pommel off with a dremel, then filed/sanded the edges flush with the rest of the handle.
It looked pretty good, and you wouldn't have anything sticking out of the pocket to look weird.
Unless you LIKE the pommel(someone must), in which case I guess it might make it easier to deploy in a hurry.

I really do like mine and I don't have a problem with the lanyard pommel, always nice to have a lashing point for those just in case circumstances. It also serves as a hammer striking surface and even opens beers...lol. The knife is stout and mine was very sharp from the factory and the lock works well.

The original was heavy but the G10 model you are talking about is a nice enough knife. It is a good beater knife. The pommel is a bit ridiculous I think I might try to remove mine. The blade itself has a nice high grind. The AUS 8 is one of my favorite steel since it is easy to resharpen and takes an awesome edge.

My son has the older model without G-10 ande it is as tough as nails and holds a decent edge.

I think you will like the knife. The lock up on my recon1 has taken years of daily use, not to mention constant flipping open and closed. Still tight, and rigid. The AK blade profile will make a good slicer/ general purpose user. It is big, but I like the way they feel in my hand. The pommel is my only thing I am not sure about. I have not carried one, but wonder if will be in the way. you can always easily remove it if it is.

I say go for it.

I've read of difficulties with the lock mechanism, even though it's essentially an axis lock, it seems to have had more issues (quality problems?). But I've also read of people not having any issues at all. If it appeals to you, I'd get it. I probably go for that over the CRKT.

Personally, in that price range, I'd get:
Benchmade Griptilian
Spyderco Endura Wave, D'Allara

For those that have one, how well does the 'wave' action work? Its a bit different than the ti-lite which works perfectly.

I say grab it, I dig CS.

Well Kaizen1.......I did get a Griptilian!!! :D

I said forget that $hit, and I went to a different dealer in town and traded in my knife plus a little cash and got the Benchmade 550SHG Griptilian. It's awsome, and it feels a lot more "at home" than the AK-47 did. I didn't get the whole 89.99 for the CRKT I traded in, but the price difference equaled out the same since I got the $100.00 griptilian (msrp, not the actual price).

This knife is bada$$, and it's a lot different than my 551 griptilians that I'm used to having. The blade is thick all the way up to the point, and the round hole is a nice touch too.

I figured it's like getting my favorite spyderco(endura) and my favorite benchmade(griptilian) and sticking them together and voila! A masterpiece. This knife is going to be my EDC hands down for a long time.

Congrats! Id probably go for the Grip over the AK as well. I do like the AK though...

Anyway let us know what ya think, sounds like you are happy. :) I dig the Spyderco hole on your Grip but I think Id forgo the serrations. Then agaain if its what they had in stock Id probably take it. ;)

I had the black G-10 version for awhile. I liked the knife overall but just couldn't fully warm up to it. The "wave" was hit or miss pending what type of pants I was wearing. The blade also seemed too short for the handle. It was quality made thru and thru, but I ended up trading it and don't really miss it. Nothing really wrong with it, just wasn't for me.

Congrats and great choice. I love the 551s and the 550s. Between the Grip and the AK47, it's a no brainer for me. For the dollar, you've just got the best deal IMHO:thumbup:
