Cold steel ak47 tactical folder..any opinions?

Opinion: not a fan of the looks, though they have some good designs over there, but you wont here much of that here on the boards(buncha buck/benchmade/spyderco/crkt whores here) ;-D

Cold Steel has a reputation of over-hyping their knives. However, I've owned a couple in the past and they're honestly not bad knives. AUS-8 is pretty decent for a hard use stainless. Edge retention isn't as good as VG-10, but it is tougher. For all intents and purposes, if you know what you're doing, pretty much any knife made out there by a reputable company is good these days.

If I were you, if you really like this knife, I'd try to find one on ebay for around $60. I wouldn't pay more than that.

Good luck!

I just got a deal on a Land/sea Rescue over at Botach Tactical. May want to check them out. There are other knive houses. But I shop price when I find what I want. Good luck.:)

I've handled it and don't like it. Feels/looks really bulky, and bigger than other knives with same length of blade.

I handled one, but I don't own one.

It's kind of ugly, but fairly comfortable in the hand. I'm not a fan of the black blade, but I love the G10 handled one, that is extremly light weight.

personially I like it.

Flatgrinder i found one for 54.00..shipping and all is 61.00. Think im going to go ahead and get one too. Im curious if anyone had one and if they had any problems. Does cold steel have a good customer service?

Welcome to the forums. It wouldn't be my first choice in that price range, but you could do a lot worse.

Somehow we seem to be caught up in a race to make the ugliest knives now, and many will race to buy them. Personally, I prefer the more traditional and aesthetic designs, but I do think that Cold Steel makes some good knives in many cases. I very much like those I've bought from them over the past 20 years or so, though most are fixed blades made of their Carbon V steel.

Cold Steel, despite what you will hear on this board, produces some of the best knives for the buck. They don't use super steels, nor are their designs the most efficient, but when you buy a knife from them you can generally bank on getting a strong knife with good steel. If your blade is made from AUS8, it'll be a good grade of AUS8 and it will be correctly heat treated and professionally polished or coated and sharp right out of the box. (Many decent knives out of the box are about as sharp as letter openers.)

As for their AK-47, if you like it and buy it, you'll probably be thrilled with it. I'd also take a gander at their Recon One.

I had one and it was all right. For the money it was pretty good, that being said the knife opened on its own a few times and cut the crud out of my pants and hand. Maybe I was lucky some d-bag stole it, because I got a poliwog after it and really like the ugly feller.
