so i pulled the trigger and ordered the AL from cold steel with the cts xhp steel.this is day two of ownership so i cant tell you abought the heat treat yet but it came sharp out of the box and after a few laps on leather the edge is sticky sharp.it was slimer than i expected abought 1/2 " handle thickness, still it fills the hand well and feels good and solid in the hand.i wanted to see the tri ad lock and it sure seems strong as the hype paints it to be however its by far the hardest backlock to disengage i have every owned, prints a real grove in my thumb when i press it hard to disengage. all in all iam happy i bought it and hope the lock will losen up with time

go beat on that sucker and report back!
I have heard the locks smooth out a bit BUT beware of the finger-guillotine effect when the blade snaps closed!

Cold Steel knives leave the factory with a good edge.

The lock will likely wear in with some use and be a bit easier to manipulate but the triad lock is always gonna be stuff.

And yes, like said above it closes with a finger amputating thud so be careful. My new Finn Wolff got me once already.

will count my fingers daily thanks. its very stiff ti unlock but i love the blade shape and the thinness behind the edge

I made my Cold Steel Code 4 easier to unlock by leaving it in the half-open position overnight for 2 or 3 nights. As already mentioned, do be careful with your fingers. A split-second of inattention on my part while unlocking it resulted in a nasty cut on my R index finger. In fact, I'm in the process of healing as I type this. It could have been worse, and thankfully it wasn't. I would strongly recommend with all Triad locks, that you close them carefully 2-handed, paying attention throughout.

so a week or two later the lock had freed up a bit or my thumb has gotten stronger anyway i can one hand open and close now.I worked the allready sharp edge down on my j-nats and she got stupid sharp will shave my cheek but not my chin all in all i think cold steel knocked it out of the park with the new lawman. I have yet to scrach the dlc coating, for me to be perfect it would need to be 1/8" thicker in the grip maybe 3/16"my hands are 60 year old ironworker hands and need a bit more to hold on to.i have been thinking how I could make the grip thicker and short of remaking the entire grip frame the only way I can come up with is to either pin or glue material to the outside of the grip frame, true I would not be able to take it apart afterwards unless I drilled access holes for the pivot and frame screws. as for the material Iam thinking leather. the clip would have to go but Iam no fan of pocket clips anyway. seems to me that leather would give me even more traction the the g10 , add a bit of tooling for looks and... i have never glued leather to g10 before but it looks to me like the fine texture of the g10 would hold forever. what do you guys think?

get an old aus8 while you can and swap the blades. i sanded mine down a bit and its perfect now
