I asked Santa for two knives this year... The Cold Steel "KOBUN", and the Kershaw "CAMP 10". As far as the knives go....kobun came dirty! I realize that yes, its a low end cold steel knife, but, to come dirty like it had not been through the final cleaning process at the Taiwan plant...unacceptable in my eyes. It seemed to have buffing compound on it still. Also, the warning about it being extremely sharp on the box must have been a misprint. It definitely was not extremely sharp. Sharp, yes...extremely. ..no. Kershaw " CAMP 10"...Except for coming already open and unwrapped, this blade is excellent! I have large hands, so the bigger than usual grip was a perfect fit ! Also came razor sharp, and completely unmarred. It is so appropriately named as well. This knife is a PERFECT camping tool. Properly weighted and the no slip grip are going to be great for hacking brush and maybe even some kindling chopping...if I want to scratch it up a bit. Another good one from Kershaw. Looks quite wicked as well, you know, to scare away the bears...

Has anyone else experienced a Cold Steel mishap like this? I'm really rather shocked, given their great reputation.

This will find a better home in General Knife Discussion I think. Moving it there.

My apologies for miscategorizing...I'm rather new at this.

After a closer inspection of the "KOBUN" it seems to have some discoloration in two places, looks like what I call " grinder burn ". I certaitanly hope the blade temper has not been compromised. I gave it a good cleaning, these two places are definitely discoloration of the blade itself.
