i've been looking at cold steel push blades, and i like the design. judging by their price (11.99) they could very well suck. anyone own one?? if not, how about the benchmade 175 cbk

i kinda figured, i just dont know if i want to put down 90 on a push blade. i guess my sting seems good enough.

Well it's really true in the knife world that "you get what you pay for". I wouldn't really trust a 12$ knife to do anything.

I used to own 2 Cold Steel's one zytel Ti Lite which I still love but I sold to my brother who really likes the knife and I know him and he treats his knives well. And a Tanto 1/2 serrated Recon 1 which I also sold because I wanted an Emerson CQC 8(awesome knife) and a guy at work liked the knife and he does some work other than working at a sporting goods store that would warrant a good strong knife. I like some of their designs like some of their fixed blades and some of their folders are nice but a Spyderco or Kershaw or in the High end of things Emersons offer some better selections but don't let me stop you from buying them.

what 12 dollar knife are you talking about? I own many safe makers and safe keepers and their all over 4 inchs long in blade lenght alone. I'd trust my lifes to all of them as well! The safe makers are a bit different as an entire side is flat while the other is raised at an angle. The safe maker 1 is the same size as the safekeeper 2 and I have yet to find a safekeeper 1 for sale anywhere near its normal price or at all to be honest.

i have two cold steel push daggers that i absolutely love. they are very easy to carry and very easy to deploy.

i have the cold steel urban pal, and the safemaker2. the urban pal is very cheap and very small, a great last ditch type weapon. i would say go for the urban pal, if you want a bigger more serious one the safemaker 2 is awesome.

the cold steel safemakers are made in japan, while the safekeepers are made in china i believe. the safemakers are higher quality.

oy not again

with ANY company there's gonna be hype around their stuff, cold steel has a certain knack for attracting too much hype, some of their stuff is top notch other things arent worth the bank you'd have to plop down for em their push-blades are a 7 out of 10
but if i were you id go the full nine yards and get the BM

cheers!

SAK, Opinel, Sodbuster, etc can all be had for under $10 and work perfectly fine.

the cold steel push daggers have a way better handle inmop than the bm pushdagger. the large kraton handle on the safemaker2 is very comfortable. the bm one doesnt look bad at all though, and i havent handled it so i cant say for sure. compare the two...

i carry pushdaggers sometimes in addition to large folder if im going to be in a high risk part of town or something like that.

the cold steel urban pal is less than 20 dollars, i have rammed mine repeatedly into the hard wood of my desk and it has held up just fine. it will work for self defense.

the 12 dollar one i was referring to was the fgx nightshade push blade. i just noticed that its made of grivory though, and i dont know if i'd trust that.

pay a little more and get a metal push knife. BTW the grip on the safe makers/keepers are a lot more steady then on the other one.

I have several Cold Steel knives, including a SafeKeeper push dagger and two Urban Pals. I would not hesitate to trust my life to any of them. The Grivory(r) made Nightshade series is actually very nice, for what they are. They are non-metallic one-piece knives, which actually do cut and pierce fairly well, but which are not nearly as durable as the steel ones, obviously. I have a few of those as well.

CS fixed blades are generally ok for the money. Some folders are good too... i read on our local that pocket Bushman holds 130 kg without damage (and i havent seen Solid proof hehe)

I have a Cold Steel Urban Skinner, Urban Pal, and Mini Pal, and all are good knives, and probably better for utility than the Benchmade.

For those that want hype, remember when the Benchmade first came out it was "sold for police only," obviously something to get people to want it more.

I've never used grivory, but have a zytel Ace of Spades from Choate, which is really the only comparable product to the CS plastic pushdaggers. It's held up to abuse, but isn't a real knife and plastic "knives" shouldn't be compared to real ones.
