I'm new to knives, and could use some help with the different types of Cold Steel blades, as I am planning to get one. First of all, what are the differences between Clip, Tanto, and Spear points, and are there any different uses that are specific to a certain type? Also what are the different uses for the plain blades versus the half-serrated? Thank you for the help!

Cold steel isn't particularly known for their slip joint or traditional knives but I guess they do make them. A clip point is a knife blade with one edge, and almost like the back was clipped off, like a pirates sword kind of. It's a general utility blade but is useful because it has a good point. A tanto blade is like a really shot samurai sword, because initially it was made from broken samurai swords. It's more useful for thrusting. A spear point blade is usually double edged and is symmetrical. It's Ritter for things like thrusting or throwing, and is less common on slip joint knives

Howdy,
While Cold Steel has in the past made stockman and other traditional knives, they are not currently doing so. Tanto blades are not exactly traditional, unless you are talking about Japanese traditional knives, and those are actually a different shape.

All in all, I think you would be better served posting this in the General Forum. Moving there now...

Serrated blades are good for cutting rope and such and also for those of use who aren't sharpening pro's the serrated edge will still cut even when dull.
