I like, and own, many of the knives offered by CS, but just cant get their pricing. Their MSRP is way out of step with the product. Recently I have not gotten as much savings searching on my own as previously.

The aluminum they use scratches the second you look at it funny. We had the Espada series in the shop and no matter how careful we were with the display models, they still got scratched to s***. :( Otherwise they were very sturdily built. Given that the Black Rhino uses the same construction it should be quite tough.

Just a quick couple observations on the Black Rhino, I had one and traded it while keeping the more outrageous Spartan here is why from experience:

The knife is well thought out on the high side its blade profile and size are very good while the ergos are top flight as well.

What killed this knife for me and ultimately got it moved down the road...it's so expensive that I thought twice about using it (if cost is not an issue for you then this point is moot), the AUS 8a is not a great steel, the edge doesn't hold as well as 154cm, ats34, S30v, BG42 or other materials you can find on equally priced knives, the aluminum is easily prone to scratching (mentioned also by the previously poster) and finally the knife is god awful shiny, not a big deal to some but if I have a big folder then it needs to be on the more subdued side.

Alot of this is personal prefence, but when it came down to it the Spartan gave me more blade, a design the cuts hard and deep from draw, and a ultra secure grip for a third of the price.

Ordered me one too, yesterday. I agree that the prior high price was a big put off, but now with this good closeout deal, I couldn't pass it up.

I posted a link on the General forum about this and got dinged!
So its a no-go to clue people in on a good deal around these parts?
Frankly, I am surprised this one is still here.

cbxer55, was the link in General the start of a thread? THAT would be deal-spotting. I am much more lenient about deals when someone is discussing the item already, it's not like you're shilling for the company, there's already interest in it.

BTW, I got that CS email myself, and looked hard at the Black Rhino but I just can't see it replacing what else I've got and carry. There was another bargain there though that I went for. :)

Yeah, I started a thread on the subject, as I had seen several others who wished for a lower price.

Oh well, live and learn.:)
