I've been away for over a month making a livin' (the less said, the better). It's good to be back on the forum with an update on the Cold Steel Black Sable, which has generated plenty of controversy among members. First, the knife, which I have carried as a daily-use tool, is a terrific performer; the quality of manufacture is high: everything remains tight and effective after a great deal of hard work with rope, wood and leather. But I have found a flaw previously unmentioned! Now this annoying malfunction could be a particularity of my own knife, but if it extends across the production, Ventura will be obliged to address the problem. Basically, upon closing, the edge of the blade just slightly rests upon the inside of the lock mechanism, which results in a tiny indentation of 1-2 millimeters in length being pushed into the edge itself about three-quarters of an inch from the base of the blade (at the bolster end of the blade). This is of course a minor irritant, but a freak like me is inevitably going to be driven nuts by this sort of thing. I'll call Cold Steel next week and apprise them of the situation. Resolution would involve slightly shaving down the inside of the lock bar to allow for extra blade clearance.... You may depend on a report once I talk to those folks.
