anyone own one of these knives. After a close look at this knife it looks like it is hidden tang not full tang. Anyone have details on this knife?

Wrong dude, Black Bear is in the middle.

Black bear is great, but the new OSS will have the upgraded SMIII and Japanese construction this turn. It has an encapsulated tang and rubber handle which is held on by the lanyard tube in the end of the tang. Superb value on AUS8 OSS also.

Dude, it is, unless you have some evidence, I am holding it in my hand right now and it is a one-piece blade with the sub hilt and oval guard add on hardware, that is it.

the handle was made seperate then put on the blade and pinned. I also have one I'm looking at.

The blade is pinned to the handle... I say put up or shut up. If it's true I have bought my last Cold Steel.

It's possible to weld a tang onto a blade. If the weld is done properly, the result is seamless. I know of at least one manufacturer who routinely welds Damascus blades to mild steel tangs to help him keep his costs down. (His results, by the way, are terrific.) But I can't see any reason why Cold Steel would choose to do that in this product.

I was very upset when I noticed it. Was not a true full tang knife. I thought it was all one piece with two pinned guards on the blade but. It's not. The handle and the guards are one piece and the blade is another. I wish the was a blueprint of it somewhere to look at.

Now I get it! Great post, Glen. Thanks. The only remaining question is whether the Cold Steel Black Bear is a frame handled knife. I suppose the only way to find out would be to x-ray the handle or take it apart. And props to okie 46 for catching it if it turns out to be frame handled.

i know it is a framed handle, if this knife wasnt so costly i would take it apart. it also has san mai steel and the steel through the handle it not san mai. i was very disapointed when i noticed it, but i bought on vacation in another state and can't return it. thanks for all your help guys.
