I just started using my bowie bushman a few days ago and had split off several days worth of kindling for my wood stove so when i ran out of kindling about an hour ago i grabbed the bushman to split off a few slabs for the fire and i hit a knot in the wood due to low light conditions and the blade shattered! about an inch high and two and a half inch long gap! I decided to see how tough the G.I. tanto is since it is a cheap knife and wouldn't be a great loss so i took it out and drove it through the tough knot several times and although it took a lot of strength to pound it through it was not damaged.

I would guess that the steel had some issues from manufacturing. A picture would be cool if you have a camera.

P.S. Would you buy another one or is your faith in the tool wasted?:(

I loaned my camera and have not got it back yet... but yes i would buy another one since i beat the crap out of it the past few days and when the blade hit the knot in the oak it turned sideways and i didn't pay much attention to it when i smacked it with a heavy blow from the heavy oak baton! it is a very good knife for the money. I had already bent the blade almost in half and it sprang back true so i don't think it was a problem with the knife it was indeed my fault.
