Hello All,

This is my first post, and I'll start it off with a question. Is the edge on a CS Bush Ranger flat ground all the way to the edge, or does it have a second bevel to achieve the cutting edge? In other words, does the knife's grind yield a truly thin edge, or does it retain some thickness due to a secondary bevel? I am hoping that is truly flat ground, as that is the style of blade that I like. The reason I am posting this topic is that I am thinking of purchasing a good, medium to large size flat ground blade and I think this fits the criteria. I am open to other suggestions for a flat ground blade over six inches. Also, if someone has pictures of a Bush Ranger's edge geometry, please post.

Thanks to all,

Welcome to the forums!

The Bush Ranger does not have a zero degree edge. It has the secondary bevel forming the edge. But get the knife anyway. I had one and man is that ever a nice knife. LOTS of curvy edge for great slicing, and the steel is 3/16" so it is string yet with the wide blade and flat grind, the edge is nice and thin. And very sharp out of the box. The handle shape is very ergonomic and retains your grip well. You can order this knife with confidence.

The bush ranger is my favorite cold steel knife. IT is a great blade, get a 2nd from the special projects catalog, and it is one of the best deals you can find on a knife.

Thanks Kile and Crayola for your expediate responses. But here is another question. Which would be more suited to Camp/hunting/survival needs if it is necessary. The Bush Ranger or Ken Warner Big Country Kampr? I like the thought of a convex edge on the Kampr, like the one on my Blackjack 1-7. Discuss amongst yourselves.

Don't worry about the edge! I can put a convex edge on a bush Ranger in minutes. If you have access to a blet sander, or know someone in your area, or you wouldn't mind sending your knife to a maker who will do it, you can get a convex edge put on the Bush Ranger.

I don't know what this ken Warner knife is like. I have never heard of it, actually, so I will make no comparison. Putting a convex edge on a bush Ranger is no problem, so don't let that factor into your comparison of the two blades.
