Some years ago, I was intrigued with Cold Steel Carbon V steel. Carbon V steel wasn't available in a folder, so I bought an SRK and spent hours re-profiling that thick blade, de-wiring and finishing the edge with a succession of stones and finally stropping it to a mirror finish. Many knife purchases later (folders all), that SRK edge was still the sharpest and toughest edge in my possession - though I've put some labor into matching that edge with fine folders by Spyderco, Benchmade and other makers.
I noticed that Cold Steel is closing out their Carbon V folders, so I bought a trapper and mini-stockman with Carbon V blade material. The quality of these knives is pretty damned crude, but with some labor in re-profiling and finishing the edges, these blades really define the meaning of 'razor-sharp' and 'scary-sharp'.
The style is retro. The quality is poor. They're cheap knives that you wouldn't want to brag about.
But the blades themselves, edged with some effort, are magnificent.
