Cold Steel Carbon V folders

Some years ago, I was intrigued with Cold Steel Carbon V steel. Carbon V steel wasn't available in a folder, so I bought an SRK and spent hours re-profiling that thick blade, de-wiring and finishing the edge with a succession of stones and finally stropping it to a mirror finish. Many knife purchases later (folders all), that SRK edge was still the sharpest and toughest edge in my possession - though I've put some labor into matching that edge with fine folders by Spyderco, Benchmade and other makers.

I noticed that Cold Steel is closing out their Carbon V folders, so I bought a trapper and mini-stockman with Carbon V blade material. The quality of these knives is pretty damned crude, but with some labor in re-profiling and finishing the edges, these blades really define the meaning of 'razor-sharp' and 'scary-sharp'.

The style is retro. The quality is poor. They're cheap knives that you wouldn't want to brag about.

But the blades themselves, edged with some effort, are magnificent.

Their Trailguide series are lockback folders in Carbon V and I haven't heard of them being discontinued.

I believe he is talking about their slipjoints that are discontinued.

I rather like the CarbonV steel.

I picked the Laredo Bowie as a commercial carry piece due to the design and steel used.

They are mentioned, yes, but he also started his post by noticing that Cold Steel originally wasn't making Carbon V folders. So, there are the discontinued slipjoints and the still continued lockbacks.
