There has been much discussion/contriversy here lately over Cold Steel and the More Proof DVD's. It has got me thinking of possibly doing a comparison test myself replicating some of the things done in the video to see how well there knives will actually hold up to them, and how a competitor or two will hold up as well. Personally I am skeptical about the claims that the video and compnay makes about the knives. I am willing though to put a Cold Steel knife thorugh its paces objectively and see how well it holds up.

I am even more interested in seeing how it will compare to the knives made by other companies. To me it seems of very little value to say the my knife can do xxx, without any basis for comparison. Would anyone else be interested in seeing the results of some tests like this?

Basically my idea is to buy a CS folder of some sort, and a competing product or two. Then put them all through the same tests, basically what is done in the More Proof DVD and see what happens. I want to compare comparable products here, so no heavy duty tantos (say a Buck/Strider 880 type) against a frail and weak CS product. I would also like the different knives as close in price as possible, so no $500 customs against a $20 CS.

Any ideas on some different knives I could try? I am thinking maybe something from CS, something from Spyderco, and something from CRKT. They all make some budget oriented models, and I am sure I could easily find some models that are similiar in size, shape, construction and price to test.

First off, excercise caution. Those guys hacking through watermelons, bottles of crappy soda and rolled floor mats make it look like the common butterknife would go through a cinderblock. That said, I would test out a large Voyager against an Endura, maybe a medium Voyager against a Delica, the Kershaw Blur rescue and Spyderco Rescue against the Cold Steel land and sea rescue. I enjoy some parts of the More Proof videos, I would like to see them practicing their spear throwing on real animals, but that's just me. To all of the hardcore CS supporters, calm down, I still really like my Voyagers, Bushman and Kukri machete.

Take a good CLOSE look at the folders used!!!!

Points are blunted and the edges ground!!!
