Cold Steel extra hole?

Welcome to Bladeforums bbflamingo1.

According to Mr. Demko himself, the hole at the front end of the handle is just for looks. In a different knife he made for Lynn Thompson, Mr. Demko had designed that knife with a similar hole for a pin to be pressed through for added safety (preventing the knife from closing if the lock failed), and that knife came with the pin attached to a lanyard secured through the rear lanyard hole.

Mr. Demko says that he just liked the look of the pin hole in that other knife so he included it in the design of the 4 Max Scout. He said it's not for a pin, it's just for aesthetics.

He also said he was new and the was sending Lynn Thompson off on hunting excursions to test prototype knives and thought it wouldn't go over well if he caused the boss to cut his fingers off. So that's the reason for the original pin.
