Hi ! :)

I made a thread about the Skean Dhu/nightshade series, to see what people haved to say about them, and to see if they were worth it.
So i bought two of them, the other for torture testing, and the other one for use. It has been a rainy day here in Denmark, so it was the perfect day to test....in the middle of the rain. So first i tested the ''grippyness'' of the handle, wich is made of Kraton. And its not slippery at all. I also burried the knife in mud, and digged it up, and its still not slippery. For those of you who dosn't know what kraton is, its a kinda rubber like material, just much more sturdy. I can't wait to test this knife in Snow! :D
I stabbed through houndrets of Coke Cans, wich is made of aliminum, and the tip is still pretty darn sharp.
The Skean Dhu is fully sarrated, so it cuts fairly well too. But damn, the tip is very, very sharp. When i got it, i just poked my self, in the hand with the tip, to see if it was sharp, and i pierced through my skin :(

But there is one problem. There is a metal ring in the handle of the knife. A key ring....AND I CAN'T GET THE BLOODY THING OFF. (Caps lock turned off)
Please anyone, give me a tip. I've tried melting it, smashing it with a hammer, and a axe....But that just show how much durabillity this knife has, even the key ring won't break xD

Buttom line, this knife is good for stabbing, but don't buy it, if you need or want, and knife with good slicing power. But the slicing power is okay. The stabbing power is really awesome. And its very light weight too. That's about it.

Now...Go ask some questions! :)

I will try to get my hands on one! :D

I think they put the ring on it, so people can't get through metal detectors :/

I don't know about your particular Nightshade, but I bought a couple of the Tantos, (the older version without the Kraton handle) and all I did was snip the rings off with my Leatherman Supertool wire cutters, no problem.....

yea, one of my friends had one without the kraton handle too. I don't recall him having any problems with the ring :/

I have one . There should be a hairline gap in the ring where the metal meets. I just inserted my pliers into the ring in closed position, then gradually opened them till they pushed the ring apart at the gap.

God knows why I bought it. I buy things on eBay without reading the description fully. :/

i wouldnt mind getting one to try out, keep it in the storage shed in case i need it,at least i dont have to worry about it rusting on me

Well, maybe that's something to hang in the shower from the shower head. Then I can say I always have a knife with me. :D

Yep. That is exactly why it's on there.

I removed mine with bolt cutters as well. Maybe hacksaw your way through it if you cant get a hold of bolt cutters.

I clamped the ring in a vise and used pliers to pull it apart where that little gap was. I'm happy your FGX has held up, the tip on my FGX push knife broke off.

I don't know what the big deal is with the large split ring.I simply removed the ring with a pair of lineman plier on one half and on the other half a pair of needle nose pliers. Then twisted the ring open,.......presto.....the ring is easily slipped off.

Thx for the help guys :) Im going to a friend of mine who lives at a farm. He has a ton of different tools....I hope that i can find a Bolt Cutter ! :)
