I have been needing a good inexpensive knife for processing game and use in the kitchen. For $12 this knife seems like an absolute steal. Anyone recommend it or have any personal experience with it? Pictures are encouraged. Videos are not, as I cannot view them on the device I am using.

It's an excellent buy. Stainless steel (Krupp 4116, if I remember well) and synthetic handle make it perfect for food. It's a strong knife, light and very handy. The ribbed handle gives great power and good grip even when wet. I have one tucked permanently in the backpack. It's plenty tough, you can split small branches and shave fuzz sticks all you want. It's a pleasure to use. Well, no wonder... CS copied faithfully one of the best traditional patterns in the world : the finnish puukko. But CS made a very decent, performing and extremely affordable product out of it. Now just in case you were the rabid prying guy : don't go all too brutal on it, it has a hidden tang that is only approximately one third of the handle length. Won't ever fail under normal use.

The toughest thing I plan on using it for is splitting the sternum of a whitetail. Do you thing it could hold up to that, or would the lateral stresses be too great?

Take a look at the Dexter Russell 5 inch knife # 10411. For about 15.00 dollers it is a great knife for game as well as kitchen use, Good ole 1095 steel also.

I like 1095, but I don't really want carbon steel for the kitchen, but thank you for the recommendation. I'm ordering it in a few hours, along with an Ontario SP-10

I've rocked the finn bear for years! Unbelievable value! I highly recommend it as well as the pendleton lite Hunter. When it comes to inexpensive knives nobody can touch cold steel. I've put my finn bear through alot worse than you're talking about and I often find it in the wives kitchen. You'll love it

+++ on the Pendleton Lite. More game oriented perhaps but a very, very pleasant allrounder all the same.

I have the Finn Bear and the Pendleton Light Hunter, use the light hunter a bit more.

Check out the Mora Top Q allround in 12C27 Sandvik. A very nice knife given the price, pretty similar to the Cold Steel in some ways. I've handled the Cold Steel, and it's a fine knife, and cutlery lover compared the Cold Steel to a Mora on his youtube channel. It's interesting.
