Alright you thin Mora-type blade guys, who has opinions on the Cold Steel Finn Bear? Tell me what you think of the knife, not the company please. I just found it online and needed to hear from the pros.;)

i saw a review somewhere on the boards here between a mora and a finn bear...

it basically said that the mora came sharper, but was a poorer slicer because of the scandi grind vs thinner hollow grind. i will try to find the review...

I had one for awhile. I liked it. Compared to a Mora? Well, my personal preference is the carbon Mora blade but if I were to grab a Finn Bear I'd be just as happy. I did give it to a friend's son as a Trail gift but I'll probably snag another again sometime.

The one thing I especially liked was the grip surface. It has these ridges that really assist in a good hold when wet.

The current issue of "The Backwoodsman" magazine has a very favorable review of the CS Canadian Belt Knife. While it isn't the Finn Bear, I thought I'd mention it since they are made of the same steel, and thus might be of value for reference.

Thanks! I actually had the new issue finally show up today.

stingray- ;) its weird, actually, the search function seems to actually be working for me now. for a while it would just load a blank page and never load the results...now its quick and effective! gotta plug the paying membership...;)

Hey, did you notice? I'm a paying member now, and that's how I came up with my link.

I don't know how the search has changed, but before when it was available to every one, if your search words were too common, as in they produced too many results, that's what would happen, no results just a blank page. For instance, if your search contained "PSK" or "knife", you would get the blank page, because it would return so many results, that it would get screwed up somehow. I don't know if they've fixed that, I hope they have. Anyways, cheers.

Sorry for the rabbit trail guys. As you were.

I like the Finn Bear. I used it for deer hunting this year and it performed pretty well.

I have a Finn Bear and I like it. The ridges on the handle make it a bit noisy pulling it out of the sheath.... and maybe they catch the dirt a bit more than I'd like, but it takes a nice edge and it performs well as a hunting knife for me.

And I like the cheap Mora that I have as well.

Good value for money.

IIRC it wouldnt take that long to correct that..it was a great little knife, I just thought that MORAs held thier edge better. Gene

I own buckets of Moras (yes, literally - large 10 litre buckets full of Mora knives, that's how they're sold over here), and I'd take any Mora over the CS Finn Bear any day of the week and twice on Sundays. Better steels, better handles, just plain better. And cheaper, of course.

I used and abused a Finn Bear on a trip this past winter and couldn't hurt that knife. I'd give it a thumbs up! Just my .02

So were can a guy like me in the US, get my hands on a bucket of Moras?

I once saw a bucket of Dewalt Moras that I wanted to get my hands on, but other than seeing them on a video tour of the factory, I've can't find any info on them.

The Finn Bear is actually a design copy of a knife made by the Finnish designer Tapio Wirkkala. The original knife sometimes surfaces on Ebay and end up in the 300 dollar range.
