I dont like Cold Steel but I'm pretty intrigued by the Tri-Ad lock and I want to give CS a shot. Which folder do you guys think is best for EDC purposes in the CS lineup? Also I've noticed there are conflicting weights listed on some of the knives from various sources. Like the Lawman is listed at 5.6 oz on alot of sites but it's listed as 4.5 oz on others. Which is the correct weight?

I think i'm leaning toward the Lawman since it seems the most EDC friendly but i'm not sure. Also how does AUS 8A steel compare to to other mid level steels?

The new American Lawman weighs 4.6 ounces on my digital scale. The new ones don't have steel liners so they are lighter.

AUS 8A is an excellent steel that will hold an edge very well and it's easy to sharpen and will take an air bleeding sharp edge from my long time experiences with it. If you get a knife from CS you can be sure that you are really getting AUS 8A and it's been done correctly.

Another choice would be the New 2010 Recon 1, but it's slightly bigger and heavier at 5.1 ounces.

4.5 oz on my scale. i think the 5.6 oz reference is the older steel lined version.

the lawman is probably the most edc friendly of the bunch.

i am not a big fan of cold steel either, but thanks to ankerson i have two triad lock folders. a recon and a lawman.

Rajah III is my favorite of the tri-ad lock knives so far. I have a Recon 1 tri-ad, it's a decent knife, but the Rajah is much more user friendly for me.

Awesome, 4.6 oz is much better than 5.6 oz. Do you notice any flex in the handle without the steel liners or does it really not make much of a differance regardless?

No flex whatsoever on my American Lawman. MOF, it locks up better than much costlier knives. I'm a CS fan now and was looking forward to the new Voyagers but they won't be out this year. :-(

Yeah me too, I got intrigued by the triad lock after watching Ankerson's videos as well :o

A small amount of flex is desireable, my opinion but it depends at what load, I'd say at higher loads a bit of flex, yes.
Flex 'by hand' not so much.

Nice .

Yeah I just dont like it when the handle flexes when I'm just gripping it. Like a few of my non stainless steel lined FRN Syderco knives have this problem and you can feel the handle flex by gripping it tight. Feels very weak and cheap even though it performs just fine.

If you want the tri-ad lock, the Lawman seems a good choice. I have an old model Voyager with Aus 8A steel (and a newer one with VG-10 as well). I have no complaints about the steel.

The only CS I have is the 2010 Recon 1. Its what I consider a large knife, and takes up some pocket space, but it is EDC-able. Scales are contoured in such a way to allow a really solid grip. The G10 is very grippy, and I assume its the same with the Lawman. I sanded the G10 under the pocket clip so it wouldn't shred my pocket. A 10 second mod (after removing the clip) that is well worth it. A good value at $60 or so. I've been a knife addict for quite some time, but was turned on to CS only lately.

Lawman and Mini-Lawman are great.. But If you get a chance to handle a Recon1 it will be hard to put down..

No flex at all, it's tough.

I never been Cs fan , but new line with Tri-ad lock very good strong folders . I have AL and Recon both rock solid .

Recently had a chance to handle the new AK-47 and mini AK. I really like the mini and of all the current CS offerings it's probably top on my interest list.

Had the new recon 1 in a clip point for a couple months now and has rarely left my side. Rides very comfortably for a larger knife, low in pocket. Weight is not an issue either

I have to ask other than the wave and the pommel, what difference is there from the lawman vs. the AK-47. Seems like super similar knives in cold steels lineup I don't know why they would bother making both.

American Lawman, Recon 1 and AK-47 have VERY similar construction and generally are the same knife, just different handle and blade shapes. So in that regard you are correct. I guess it boils down to personal preference.
