Surfing around looking at blades (it is a damn disease!).
Came across the CS GI Tanto. Looks like a good knife for the money.
Anyone have any knowledge of it?

BTW, check out the description.

SPec ops impostors etc. Wonder who Thompson is talking about?;)

A day late and a dollar short. Very old news!;)

Sorry ,story of my life.
I went on youtube and saw some dude beat the hell out of the Tanto and destroyed it. Took alot of abuse. For the money looks like a damn tough knife.

I meant old news on the drama between CS and the 'spec-ops posers.' There are a few threads that made it near to and upwards of 100 pages about the ordeal. The Cold Steel G.I. Tanto appears, from all I've seen and heard, to be an excellent knife for the money, though you won't catch me buying one.

Some don't like the G.I. Tanto because they think that Lynn Thompson stole the design from Mick Strider. There is a similarity, but I think Cold Steel could have made their G.I. Tanto sleeker and much better balanced.

The G.I. Tanto is a great knife for the money. If you can find them on sale it's always a good idea to pick up a few. I have to say the ones with the grips are better for my taste than the ones with the paracord wrap. The War Head also is a fantastic buy.

As far as the blade, you either like tantos or you don't. I do, but I find them a pain in the ass to sharpen. The basic tendency is to pull the entire blade length across the rods, but you have to sharpen both angles separately.

People who actually had the talent to design the knife that he is shamelessly stealing this design from. That is my guess. :barf: I hate knock offs!!!

I'm not so sure thief is better than imposter though Lynn clearly believes he has the high ground. Theft is exactly what CS is doing every time they steal designs from some other knife company. No matter the build of the individual knife in question the ethics of the company stinks!

Everybody has diff takes on it. However the take i have is if it works let it be. Americanised tanto was used before strider by CS so you could also say Mick stole from lynn.

However I hate Mick anyway. He is a Liar and a person whom is rarely honest about his mil. service. However a bunch of coolaid drinkers love him anyway.

I have one and it doesn't do anything really well. It's not a good chopper or slicer. It's designed as a fighter and might be good for that usage. I wouldn't know, because I don't use knives for that purpose.

Agreed (I have one too). For just a few dollars more, the Ka-Bar is a much better all-around knife.

great knife, great bargain, buy it before its gone, search my username on yotube and look through my vids to find my cs GI tanto review.

just like this guy i would reccomend the ones with the grips, i dont use mine much because of the paracord handle, i dont like the tanto edge but it works well.

Thanks to all of you for your time.
I think I will actually buy a couple and stash them around as a "beater" knife.

Well its a stolen design why not buy a cheap origional knife like a kabar or becker which now that i think about it is made by kabar now :D

None of the Strider knives look like a CS tanto. To try to simplify to the point style of the blade is a little absurd when the overall lines of the knife are arguably identical and he references the maker of the other knife in the write up of the GI tanto.

This is not only a Strider vs CS deal either. The "thumb disk" of AK line of knives is a rip off of the Emerson wave, only done in a way to technically get around the patent. It is not like this is a lone incident of intellectual property theft on the part of this company.

It is a little ironic to be promoting a stolen design by calling the original designer dishonest don't you think? 'Don't buy from this guy he is dishonest buy my stolen stuff because I'm a straight shooter'. :jerkit:

My apology to the original poster for not contributing much in the way of useful info to your thread.
