(I'm not sure that this is the proper place for this, but if not, feel free to relocate it)

The Cold Steel Gladius Machete. I just got mine today, after being on the back order list for a couple of months, and I was wondering if anyone else had one yet and what your opinion of it was.

After actually holding the thing in my hands, I think that it'll make a perfect companion piece for my Henry .22 Mare's leg. Beyond that...

Wasn't someone looking for a good zombie dispatching blade recently?

Lucky you. I placed an order for one (OsoGrande Knife), and am still waiting to hear from them (by the way, does anybody knows if they are still in business?)

more of a short sword, than a machete, isn't it? nice historical shape and all, but how useful is the design for actual machete type work? that double edge makes me think machete work will be limited. anyone tried it out in the woods, or swamp yet? thanks!

Yep, I bought it to have a cheap gladius, not for use as a machete. It's marketed as a machete, because it's not constructed in the same way as a real sword would be. Still, it's got a nice long sharp edge. LCT made short work of a bunch of mailing tubes, at least, although the gladius was more of a stabbing weapon than a slasher.

I've been waiting for months for this to be available !!

Gotta order one now :D
I got things that need to be pierced !

I can see one of these in my future...always wanted a Gladius to knock around and this one won't break the budget!

I forgot to mention in my original post that got my Gladius directly from Cold Steel after being on their waiting list for several months.

Don't wait, call them. Years ago, I ordered from them. They billed the card I used. After several weeks, I called and found out the product was not in stock and they had no idea when it would be. I cancelled and they reversed the charges, but had I kept waiting, I still would be :-(

White Avenger, what are you going to really use the Gladius for? I pulled up their web site so I knew what you folks were talking about. Cool, but I can't envision a practical use. That never stopped me from buying stuff that catches my eye however. Hope you enjoy it.

Conquering the world. One thrust at a time. This IS the sword that built the Roman Empire, after all... :D

Thanks; the problem is I ordered via e-mail (live outside the US of A) and they have not charged my credit card. That's why I wondered if they are still in business (in the past, they sent my purchases in a couple of days).

I'll probably use it for exactly the same thing that I use my Henry >22 Mare's Leg handgun for. Purely as a toy. You know what they say. The biggest difference between boys and men ic the cost of their toys. Seriously, I just saw it and wanted it. It was within the limits of my finances at the time (pretty much the same thing as the Mare's Leg) so I bought it. I'll probably hack down a few saplings or clear away some kudzu on my farm property, but mostly it was just a want, see, have item. Most likely the same reason that everyone here (and everywhere else) either has or wants one.

Plus, if the zombies ever attack...
