Cold steel gurka kukri or esee junglas

Hey guys and gals, I'm looking for a new knife to keep for a long time 10 years +. What would you recommend the cold steel gurka kukri or esee junglas or cold steel gurka kukri plus I'm looking at the O-1 high carbon for the kukri. I want the knife for survival use (chopping lots of wood, cutting branches, prepairing shelter etc.) and for home defense or personal protection. I like the slashing power of the kukri but I like the warrenties on the ESEE knives. Can some point out the pros or cons of the both knives and which one they would recommend I need a hard use knife

If you want to do lots of chopping then the kukri should serve you well. I wouldnt get the plus model though. I dont really see what you need a finger guard for. Not like you're going to be fencing with the thing.

I agree with this if you want a Kukri skip the CS and just get an HI.

They both fill the same niche for me. I ended up keeping the Gurkha because I love khuks and they just feel natural to me. The Junglas is a great blade though, and the ESEE warranty is tops. IMHO, they are so close it's a toss-up. They both handle everything from chopping to slashing. The weight and length are identical and they both have excellent sheaths. Good luck.

I sold the kuk but still have the esee
Straight b'ades are easier to sharpen for me and more versatile

I'd get genuine Nepalese khukuri,handcrafted and forged in Nepal,,,Himalayan Imports (HI) or Khukuri House (KHHI),both are masters and most recommended to be the best in the genuine Khukuri industry....

Are you sure? What warranty do they (Esse) have? Check Himalyan Imports lifetime warranty list,they have some blades,that are warrantied for use as a pry-bars,so far i have never seen more comprehensive warranty than that...They are more than confident in stuff they do.

You can cut an ESEE blade in two with a blow torch and they will replace it for you. (They will call you a moron but they will replace it. )

It is not a lifetime warranty. It is a forever warranty no matter who the owner is. One of the best warranties in the game.

ESEE's warranty is awesome. It inspires me to use the knife hard . A while ago I was using pieces of hardwood to smash it through other pieces of hardwood for firewood

In accurate response to the question asked,i do not know cold steel warranty rules,so i see Esse as a safe bet.

In regards of performance and reliability-non of the above KLO (khukuri like objects) can match genuine Nepalese khukuries in any way......

Have you tested the CS Gurkha khukuri against many of your Genuine Nepalese Khukuri? Over the last several years I've found the CS Gurkha compares very well. So well, in fact, that if heading into the unknown, it would be my large blade of choice without question. When I wander East into the dark woods, that's the one I have grabbed. If you've tested your CS Gurkha against your other khukuri, I'd like to hear your thoughts. I'm always up for a good khuk review:thumbup: Thanks.

Kukuri knives are excellent choppers but wierd to use to batton
In real outdoors sitations battoning is way more useful
Plus those nepalese kuks weigh a ton not something to bring on extended hikes
I would rather take a grandfur bruks axe + large knife

How much do this axe and large knife weigh?
My heaviest Kukri is about 32oz.
