i just finished reading the thread about what you guys think about the cold steel stuff, but i have a more specific question that wasn't answered there.

i am looking at maybe getting a trail hawk from them. it is light, it is cheap, and it looks strong. i watched them punch holes in car hoods with both ends, and i saw them stick it into a cow head. i noticed no apparent wear on the blade or even the finish.

but i would like to know from a third party; how good is the trail hawk really? i wan't to know what i am buying before i buy it. it is not really alot of money, but should i spend any money at all if i am not going to be able to use and depend on it?

thanks ahead of time for your response.

There is no Trail Hawk in the catalog. You might not be able to get one any more.

are you sure?
i just went and checked my catalogue again, and it is on page 69 in the fall 2006 issue. i just got it maybe a month ago. perhaps you have a different version?

All of the CS Hawks are good durable throwers that can handle extreme abuse. Just make sure you get some replacement handles. The Trail Hawk is currently available on Ebay for less than $25.

CS VN Hawk. Impressive VDO. But really, the balance stinks. Sure the spike punctures cans. But I don't think anyone out there would pick this pattern for its axe head. Maybe it's just me but I found the handle itself lacking. Cause a lot of imbalance through the shifting of weight between the two ends of the axe head.
But there's room for improvement. I would ask that it be made one and a half times wider that it's present circumference. Maybe something a little more oval at that. For example handles much like the Ka-Bar USMC rather than the Ontario/Camillus Marine Knife which are overly rounded.
The CS Norsehawk is fine by me. As suggested by some, see if you could add on a few spare handles as stock.
