I had a 2 fold question

1st I purchased a Cold Steel Heavy Machete when it arrived it seemed to be nothing more then a piece of steel with a edge bevel no sharp edge. I have read alot about Cold Steel going down hill of the past few years Is this what we should expect from Cold Steel products.

2nd I tried using it anyway on a tree that fell during the recent blizzard and needless to say it was not very useful.

I was wondering what is the best way to profile the edge. I ran over the bevel with a bastard file Have not had a chance to test it out yet. But was wondering if anyone could make somne suggestions.

Thanks
Eddie

CS machetes are usually not very sharp from the factory. A metal file works wonders.

I haven't read anything like that, except for the customary hate they get here on BF. Their quality is much the same as it always was. I think it's pretty good, others think it sucks, but it seems pretty stable. ;)

I can imagine.

See above, you did fine. The 1055 that CS uses for their machetes is very tough and easy to sharpen, thought it doesn't retain all that well. But IMHO they're great tools for the money, and virtually indestructble.

gl with your new purchase.
