Hello,

1st post here - just joined today !

Thank you all in advance for any help you can provide.

I am hoping to get some additional information about the HTC (since the CS forums are gone ! ! ! ! )

What I know (from what I have read):

Model # 35HTC

15" Blade
20" Total
1/8" Blade Thickness
Cordura Sheath

What I don't know:

Years made - Mid 1990's to Late 1990's ??? [Update - sold as of 2003, see Post#5]

Only 2 versions - one that said "Carbon V" on blade and another that said "SPECIAL PROJECTS" on the blade ?

Are both of these versions made of Carbon V steel ? ? ?

Why the HTC is not listed in the Cold Steel online catalogs ?

How and where were they sold - some type of direct mailer ? [Update - Mailed catalog (but not the vintage & new Yearly catalogs archived online) called Special Projects, see Post#4]

Again, thank you - I hope I can supply someone with some information they need one day

I will see what I can find. There was another member of the CS Forum (Katana) that did a great History thread on the Kukris....they didn't interest me that much so I don't know as much about them.

Ok - thank you for the quick reply. I thought the kukris where also one of your 'histories'. Any info you know is appreciated.

Any chance your Histories will show up on this forum ?

Again, thank you

There a lot of cobwebs in that part of my memory, what with it being well over 20 years ago, but there wasn't really a huge online presence for most things. Cold Steel put out a print catalog called Special Projects that had pretty much everything that wasn't a tanto or conventional folder. If the HTC is the one I remember, it had a large, spatulate blade that wasn't very kukri-like except for being bent and weighted forward. A buddy of mine who was a hunting guide had one with Carbon V stamped on it, but Carbon V was one of the big selling points of Cold Steel at the time. CS had a bunch of kukri offerings later in the 90s (still wish I had gotten one of the small ones), that model just faded away. There may have been QC issues with it, too, as my friend's knife snapped in two chopping the head off a salmon.

I found a post on a forum called The High Road from June 2003 where someone had ordered one from the 4th of July sale flyer in 2003 and had just received it. The person even mentions that it wasn't on their website.

The LTC was around at least as early as 1992 as a Special Projects offering in 1095, and then became a CS offering in Carbon V in 1995 (and lasted until CV went away in 2006).

The HTC's I've seen have been Carbon V. Not sure if they were ever available in 1095 like the LTC, or if it was always CV, but based on how rare they seem to be, they were very short-lived either way. I'm guessing they were only around for a couple years in the early 2000's.

Thank you for the reply and shifting through the cobwebs (I know what it is like !).

Thank you again for the reply and great information !

I have seen HTC's with No "Carbon V" markings, just the "SPECIAL PROJECTS COLD STEEL USA". - I'm trying to figure out if the blade with No "Carbon V" markings is also Carbon V or not.

Again, thank you for your help (and keep the Histories coming !)

My ATC was purchased @2000, with Carbon 5 marked. It's 5/16th's thick, so it has some heft to it and I think of it more a slasher than a chopper. I prefer the Gurkha kukri for it's weight distribution and blade geometry for chopping. As usual, YMMV! :) :edited to correct "ATC" and a couple of spelling corrections.

That sounds incredible. I owned several HTC's as well as bunch of LTC's, they were all 1/8th inch thick blades. The ATC was right around 5/16th's, I'm guess that's what yours is..
