I got the Special Projects catalog in the mail today and on top of the cool new stuff they're putting out this year they are also making some changes. The Spartan, G10 Espada series, and the Rajah series are all now going to have stonewashed blades instead of bead blasted blades. I think that's pretty cool and it seems that they have been listening to us at least a little bit. Now all they need is to do away with that crappy Tuff-Ex coating and I will be quite satisfied. Just thought maybe some of you would like to know about this.

Have had a Talwar for a week and a very solid folder. Pretty nice to say the least. keepem sharp

Cool. I'm looking forward to getting my Special Projects catalog too. I'm totally happy with everything I've owned from Cold Steel (even though hating them seems to be the trend here on BF; I'll admit LT is kind of a goof). Their higher end knives are good-to-go and their cheapo tacticool wannabe ninja stuff is a lot of fun as long as you dont take it too seriously. Always nice to see improvements though. Thanks for the heads-up OP.

I'm probably really in the minority here but I'd really REALLY like to see a super steel version of the mini tuff. 3V, M4, M390... Yeah. Make it G10 too.

I'd pay good money for that!

O1 steel will be used in the large Bowies and Kukris starting this year... Stay tuned to the CS website for updates.

I plan on buying myself a Talwar in a couple days I've been looking forward to getting one since January.

I agree Lynn Thompson is a little bit of a goof, but Cold Steel is definitely a solid knife company. And don't mention it.

Well they are using CPM 3V on the new Warcraft Tanto so you never know. I would like to see a little bit better steel on many of their folders.

I love my Cold Steel folders. All 3 are perfectly centered and have never develpoed even a hint of blade play. A steel upgrade would be nice, but I will keep buying and using their stuff.

If they would even upgrade to VG-10, S30V, or 154cm, they'd be a whooe different beast. And could easily charge more for said products with no fuss.

I just got my catalog also and the new spear point trench knife looks awesome

But ! still have my eye on a extra-large Espada with Polished G10 Handle (Maybe Just The G-10).

Has anyone noticed any differences to this monster?

I for one ma glad they're dropping the bead blasted finish, I never could keep rust off of my Spartan the way I would have liked to. Stonewashing IMHO is a much more practical finish that at the same time helps hide wear. I'd love to have a Laredo in O1, but SK-5 and AUS-8 were and are serviceable.

Ahhh man, I'd love to get a Rajah 2 or Spartan stonewashed...

Just got mine today also.
My little guy has already earmarked the pages he wants me to look at.

I forgot that I got the catalog today. Thanks for reminding me! Ill have to flip through it now.

No problem.

A steel upgrade would be nice, but it would most likely call for them to do their knives in house which I don't see happening in the foreseeable future.

I really have my eye on that trench knife too man. And sorry, but the polished G10 Espada looks to be the same as always.

Yeah I agree stonewashing or polishing blades is much more practical and I think that they've had a lot of complaints from people about their bead blasted blades rusting on them. Also I may actually buy some of the knives I didn't buy before because of the blade finish. And I agree AUS8 is a perfectly decent steel especially because Cold Steel heat treats it very well.
