would any of the Cold Steel katanas make a superb choice over some of the hand made swords; seeings how they do not come close to the $1,000 + for some hand made katanas?

I've received this one for my 25th bday: http://www.handmadesword.com/226.html
Haven't *used* (yet - haven't got much occasions and would need to hone my cutting skills again, been a while I did :/), but it's very (*very*) nice considering the price

The Blade looks of great quality (nothing near those worth 4 time the price of course) and the fittings are nice and there's no play at all (hopefully!). I wouldn't be scared to use this one as a cutter at all. Feels better than my brother's Paul Chen Practical Katana (that was paid around the same price back in the days)

I'm really not sure about Cold Steel's one; I've heard not so good things about them, mainly being really heavy. They seems sturdy but they probably are more of the "chopper" kind than "fine cutting blades". I think of them like Claymore in disguise :P But then again, I've never held one, just read review.

Just my 2¢

I have owned a couple of cold steel warrior series. Their QC is bad, but when you get a well made one it is a good value for the money. I returned a chisa with a bad wrap once, so at least they stood by their product and sent me a new one
