Can anyone tell me where I can get instructions for lacing the handle? Has anyone done this to a kobun? Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated.

Do you mean wrapping it in paracord?

Why would you want to do that?

Not necessarily just para cord. I was thinking traditional cord or close to it.
Why, because the handle feels alittle thin to me. :D Nice website you got there how long have you studied Wing Chun? I have studied Wing Chun Do & JKD for about a year. Thanks

Yup, you can use the hole in the end of the handle to finish the wrap.

Oh, a traditional wrap. I was thinking paracord. I get it now.

I've always thought the Kobun's slim handle (and its overall slim profile) were part of its appeal, as this makes it a very concealable blade. The Kraton handle affords good traction, too.

can anyone tell me where I can buy the tsuka cord? Thanks for the info keep it coming.

The genuine silk "Ito" is not allways easy to find, but can be had through Shadow of leaves:

I started with good quality shoelace, either cotton or synthetic.
outdoor suppy stores have 8' laces and they are more than long enough for a knifehandle like the kobun's.
A good way to secure knots is to use superglue on them.
Sometimes it goes white, depending on the brand of glue and the type of lace, best do a test.

Play a bit with the wrapping like TL Buck's. The modern "diamondwraps" (as direct variations on the classic Japanese Tsukamaki) are fun and give more satisfaction than several of the others.

are the diamond wraps identicle on both sides of the handles? My comp won't let me open the page.

How should I knot the end of my handle? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Happy New Year everyone :)

The diamonds are almost the same on both sides, but you start with a half one on the side that is worn against your body in the sheath.
One of the ways I do it sometimes is to start the wrap at the butt end of the handle with superglue under the wrap to keep it in place, and worktowards the guard, finish with regular knots fixated with glue and covered with a separate "turks head" as guard.

I know this post is going back a while but It always makes me question people who ask such a vague question as "Why would you want to do that" . As it happens I am thinking of doing the same thing to the Kobun handle , so my answer to this guy would be.....

1. Because although the handle that is fitted to the Kobun is pretty much slip proof and adequate for many people , it might just be a little too narrow for certain people and by adding a cord wrap it just might assist with a better grip for larger hands .
2. Aesthetically I personally think it would look nicer
3. Or I would just give a similar vague answer back , "Because I want to"

This whole knife collecting thing is many faceted and we all have our favorite styles and brands of knives and the uses for which we buy them in the first place which is probably what makes it so interesting . The whole modding thing is afacinating subject in itself because even the knife manufacturing companies dont get the designs right all the time ,
