Nice review.

I would have liked to see a comparison to other commonly available Kukris or such, but overall decent.

Thanks!

Looking into getting a Ka Bar one soon to compare it to. Design-wise they're very similar though. Hopefully try to nab a more 'authentic' kukri sometime soon too.. they've got a very different design because they've got more of an axe head for a blade, so they're good for splitting. I'd imagine quite a bit heavier though.

I've got a couple "India" kukris and the construction is inconsistent as to metal thickness, relative dimensions, etc.

I suspect one of the Brish pattern kukris would make for a decent comparison. Inexpensive in surplus, too.

Welcome ioda006!

You've found the place to share in your knife interests.

I would also suggest that you look into traditional khukris such as the ones offered by Himalayan Imports. You will notice a significant difference between a hand-forged khukri with a 3/4 spine that tapers to a fine edge v. a flat machine-made one.

Nice job and thanks for all of the links. I rated your videos as "PersonalDefense" and saved your blog for reading.

I've been in martial arts for over 36 years and spent 24 of them "swinging sticks"...I picked up your right umbrella and a couple of other patterns at the end of part 2.

I'll be PM'ing you, seems we have friends in common. Nathan over at TDA Training for one and you may know Panday? He has a great blog and is turning out his own blades. He's doing Pekiti-Tirsia Kali, Batangas Knife, and Silat Melayu up in Michigan. They're under Leo T. Gaje Jr.

BTW, I still have my G.I. USMC Kabar. It's not sharp like a Spyderco or anything but it's a decent, rugged battle knife and plenty sharp enough for survival or self defense. Lot's of history, it's a very old friend.

thanks, everyone!

cziv - not familiar with Panday till now. Looks like an interesting blog, thanks. I love finding people who really use what they make how I would use it.
good to meet you =)
