Just got my Cold Steel Kukri machete today and it has no edge on it? It is ground down but no edge...is this normal. The entire blade was painted black and the black powder coat or paint was caked on so much that it is over the blade to the point that it is the point of the blade. I couldnt cut myself if I jumped on it! it is so bad it isnt even funny! Is this normal? If so this is junk!!!

Did you get the one that costs like, twenty bucks? If so, I had three of them and I reground edges onto em. Also, with machetes you DON'T want a razor edge. That'd die too fast.

Mine were dulled, but not rounded dull.

Sounds normal to me. Not junk, just treated for adjustment by the final user. Machete user's file their blades to the edge they prefer, and CS puts the initial bevel on those blades to facilitate the final edge.

The edge that came on mine wasn't too bad, better than my Wal-Mart special which I thought was incredibly dull. I could tell it had been held point down after the coating was applied, but it only appears to be thick right at the point. The only complaint I had (besides the big frickin' sticker on the blade) was that the edge near the point had been rolled over.

My CS machete is by no means junk. Ya, it came dull as a butter knife but thats typical of most machetes from the factory. It quickly got convexed and is my go to machete. For the money its a great buy. I abuse the crap out of mine and it takes it all with a smile.

Totally normal. Take a file to it then some quick passes from a medium stone and you're good to go.

Don't sweat it, just sharpen her up.

This machete had parts of the "cutting" edge as thick as the spine, so I just took her to the belt sander:

Normal for any machete. Only machete I ever got with a passable edge was an Ontario Military 18 inch.

I have one and the steel is fairly foft, compared to a good knife anyway, it shoudl sharpen up easy. You will be happy with it I am sure, it chops incredibly well. It's my only kukri though, maybe they all chop that well?

My personal feeling on the Cs machetes are that they are ground down fast and hard. softening up the steel a bit more on the "edge" after some file work and a stone, it will toughen up and hold a bit better.

I had a ton of issues with the steel rolling over and over and over until i finally worked up a decent edge. Took some time, but hey it's a $20 something dollar machete.

hit it with a file and then some sandpaper. the steel's soft and easy to work with and it makes one tough yard blade. just touch it up every so often while you work and after you finish.
