Has anyone had their handles come loose on their C.S. kukris?

On a side note, what is the correct spelling for kukri? I have seen so many ways it is spelled.

Never had my CS Kraton handles come loose/off, just blister the $^!% out of my hands.

Different authorities claim different official spellings, but there really is no "correct" way to spell Khukuri in English via a direct 1:1 translation, as the word originates in Nepalese which doesn't use our 26 letter alphabet.

you get what you pay for. good enough for alot of stuff after sharpening, but quality is something i wouldn't skip on in a more important situation.

The Kraton handles becoming loose appears to be a reasonably common occurance. That said, my '80's vintage Trailmaster's handle is still fine.

Most any knifemaker or such can make new handles for it at a resonable cost. If you have some basic woodworking tools and desire to do it, you can make handles yourself. Micarta makes a nice handle material.

What year is your knife (or perhaps I should ask "what metal is your knife?")?

I currently have the SK-5 variant of the CS kukri.

Previous weekend I took it with me on a hike in the Eifel. The trail was covered with fallen down trees. I used the cs kukri to chop of the branches of the trees in order to climb over or under the trees to continue walking on the trail.

It performs good enough for the money. However the cuttingedge rust quite a bit.

I like the shape of the blade, but would like to see the same design in a steel like vg-10. I would be willing to pay more for it in that case of course.

Thank for the replies so far. All three of my kukris are made of Carbon V. I have a nice kydex sheath made for my Ltc kukri made by Survival Sheath. The other 2 are the ghurka light model. They were made before the Bando insignia was being put on the kukris.

I would like to save up for the San Mai model. I might have to settle for the Sk-5 one, which really doesn't look all that bad.

Frankly SK-5 is a better steel for a big, heavy duty chopper than 3 layers of low-to-mid grade laminated stainless.

If you can afford one of the stainless ones, then you should switch to a real Khukuri made by HI and the like.
