Anyone own one of these? I've been drooling over this knife for a while, but the price seems steep. Any comments please?

I have one which is brand new, in the box.

I haven't used it but it is an impressive piece.

The blade is 5/16" thick and 10 1/2" long, Carbon 5 steel

It is pricey, listing at $399.00.

I own one too. Picked it in a trade. Fit and finish are fine. It's definitely an impressive piece of steel. I can't say the same about the design of the handle. It's not suited for long use chopping without gloves. The handle is very uncomfortable for long utility use. Not to mention a bit slick. All that being said, I still have it in the collection. It's fun to get out and beat on occasionally. It's probably better suited as a defense piece if you do something to improve the handle surfaced then a utility piece.

I would not pay full retail for it though. At that price, there are better bowie's out there IMHO.

It's too bad they put a faux cocobolo handle on a knife with a list price of almost $400. Even with the usual deep dealer discounts, it's still an expensive knife. I like the looks of it, but I make it a habit to never buy "faux-" anything.

I wonder exactly how "faux" the faux cocobolo is. Is it plastic? Some cheaper kind of wood dyed to look like cocobolo?

I think it's the industry standard - cocobolo colored laminated birch (Dymondwood, Staminawood, etc.) Like Benchmade's 'rosewood'.
