Just curious ...I thought these were disco'd ?

Not listed on the Cold Steel site . 21" models are there , but no 24" (OAL 29+") .

Anybody know if the machetes are now being sharpened ? 😒

Somebody on the forum recently purchased a Black Bear Bowie Machete directly from Cold Steel and it was shipped without a sheath! This after having not been available for the last two or three years. I would like to get a few more of this particular model now that it's back in stock but the price has risen considerably.

The Latin Machete looks like a real bargain at $19.99 even if it's not sharp or sans a sheath. I'm tempted to place an order and see.

I even saw some with the D guard a couple places this past week. I don't know if they're being sharpened again, so I held off as well. I don't know how often CS's website is being updated these days or to what standard. With a takeover, I think for awhile often the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Especially if there are some disgruntled employees. I'm sure it's the same way over at SOG right now.. their website seems about on the same level.

I just received a Thai machete from the WWII naval battle site, and it was sharpened very well. Quite a surprise and a super sweet mall ninja blade. I would've killed for it in 1983!

This model doesn't come with a sheath and is thinner than the typical CS machetes (2mm vs 2.8mm) so the price is about right, or at least it was before the big price hike of 2021.

That is assuming it has an edge or you have a good sharpener.

Those machetes are nice. I have the 21" & 24" d-guard ones. The guard actually has a steel core. Quite tough & handle well once you wrapped the grip with something. They came "sharp", but with a belt sander its no problem.

on sharpening......they are now again, but not well at all....you could do better even if ya didnt know how to. ask me how I know....

Are these new edges equal, better, or worse than those from cheap Walmart or Harbor Freight machetes?

Unless models that have previously been edgeless are now showing up with edges, they could be machetes that were manufactured before they stopped sharpening them. Some of these machetes had bad edges.

Either way, I bought a Worksharp MKII earlier this week and sharpened most of my garden tools with it, including putting a usable edge on a Harbor Freight machete, so if buying one of these machetes getting a Worksharp to sharpen them might be a good idea.

As I said above, my recently received Thai Machete, as in received within last few weeks from the big place with great sales, came with an outstanding convex edge. Whomever GSM or MW hired to sharpen them in the US is off the hook! I'd like to send my other machetes to them.
