Hey all, thought I'd give an update to my experience with using the Cold Steel Long Hunter.......

The knife has earned more and more respect as I use it and carry it here in Colorado mountain country. I've found that the full flat grind cuts as well as my Mora and the Krupp steel seems to hold an edge well too. What I like most is that the entire knife and sheath only weigh roughly 6 and 1/2 ounces which is super light for a 7" blade with a sheath.

As for durability, the blade is as thick as a Cold Steel Bushman and the Krupp steel seems really tough. I've batoned the knife through some logs and knotted wood and it was still able to cut paper afterwards. I've also used it to clean fish on hiking\camping trips and it performs excellent. Food prep with this knife needs no explanation because it rocks!

All in all just an excellent lightweight full sized fixed blade that's light enough to carry into the backcountry yet has 90% of the capability of the big heavy survival knives, all for just $12.50 :)

^ Thanks for your thoughts. I really am getting intrigued by its design as an "outdoors/utility cum kitchen knife".

I've been using mine as a kitchen knife, but love it. That's one of my favorite grinds, and I agree, it really works well. The steel is very stain less, which helps in the kitchen also. I'll have to start using it more than just indoors.

I have used one scary sharp for cutting meat and food preparation. While excellent as kitchen knife I chopped some light branches with it and ruined the edge completely(very light tree branches) .The edge got kind of wrinkled in middle ....didnt expect that at all.

Just batoned mine through a 5" knotted pine log and the blade was shaving sharp afterwards. I'm sure there are ways to ruin the edge but everything I've thrown at it so far has done no damage to it. It's not a RAT 7 but I think that overall it's a great knife, especially for the weight and blade length. I can carry 2 Long Hunters and a Mora for the weight of a RAT-5 alone.

>> Hey coloradowildman been reading what you've had to say. Enjoyed it very much. Because of what you have said about the Long Hunter I've decided to order one from SMKW. Please keep posting and I will keep reading. ... TAZTIME

I have one in my camp kitchen box, great cheap chef's knife, a roach belly in the tackle box too
its a better knife than most realize
I have most of the krupp CS knives and they sharpen very easily, 10 strokes on a steel and they are good to go
