Cold Steel Cold Steel Luzon Lock

Hey guys.

I just got this 6 inch Luzon and this piece of the lock mechanism is bugging me. The liner is not a 100% touching the blade lock face. This is not the case in my 4 inch luzon(last pic).

Should i return this knife?

I would return the knife.
I have both the 4" and 6" versions of the Luzon and the lock surfaces completely mate.

That corner is going to wear quickly and the lock will fail. Its not an expensive knife, just send it back and get a new one.

Return and buy the Talwar model as others have said. Cold Steel is known for their Triad locks. If you’re set on liner locks, I’d look at other manufacturers.

When I walk into a donut shop, you betcha I want the best donuts they’re known for.
I agree about the triad lock, love them.
But the liner lock on the ti lite is a super solid lock as well. Not triad level of strength but really nice and strong for a liner. I also love the nice little pad they made to disengage the lock.

Another lock i wish cold steel would have done more with is the ramsafe lock. That one seems super strong and solid and once you learn how to use it, while not incredibly easy, isn’t too hard to get the hang of. They probably could have worked on it to make it more intuitive but the pocket bushman is the only knife i am aware of that has that lock.
I wonder if it not being “fidgety” had something to do with it.

They call it a "leaf lock" and it's yet another Demko lock modification that increases the strength of the lock, just as the Triad is a modification of the back lock.
The lock bar is thicker and stiffer than that of a normal liner lock, but the key is a reinforcement bar that slides in and shortens the unsupported length of the lock bar. The combination comes very close to the security of a Triad lock. I'm very impressed with it.

Also agree about the Ramsafe lock used on the pocket bushman. Humongously strong. The only way to break it would be to tear the frame apart.

FortyTwoBlades FortyTwoBlades has a simple method for closing a pocket bushman that makes it absolutely bullet proof and safe, albeit two-handed.

The leaf lock is on the luzon, not the ti lite, right? I was just mentioning the ti lite as the only cold steel liner lock that i have any experience with.
Didn’t someone besides demko but who is well respected create the liner lock we see on the ti lite? I can’t remember for the life of me.

It sounds like the luzons lock is likely stronger.
I love the blade shape but the plastic pocket clip always threw me. I don’t love grivory as a handle material either.

I love the pocket bushman. It is such an amazing and imo underrated pocket knife.
When i was younger, i thought it was super ugly and couldn’t understand why would anyone would carry it. Now i understand the beauty in its simplicity and it is such a great performing knife.

The Ti-lite's lock is different than the Luzon's.

I don't mind the plastic pocket clip on the Luzons. They designed it well. It works surprisingly well in the front pocket and won't scratch anything that you brush against.
Grivory doesn't bother me unless it's not used correctly. (Glass fiber reinforced polyamide, similar to FRN) Cold Steel is pretty good about the surface finish on their thermoplastics and I find them to be adequately grippy. (Hogue would benefit if they studied the surface finishes Cold Steel uses on thermoplastics.) Between the thick Grivory and the thick metal liner in the Luzons, I consider them robust.

Like you, I consider the Pocket Bushman to be underrated. It is not a fidget toy, and it does not have fancy steel. But, it is bomb proof. I often carry a Pocket Bushman in my back pocket when I'm trimming weeds and light brush. It makes an adequate pocket machete for stuff that the weed wacker won't cut, and I don't wince as much when I hit the occasional rock. It is about as close to a folding fixed blade as any design I've ever seen. I have several.

If the CS liner lock works for you, then awesome dude. Me personally, I just find it a bit of a waste going Cold Steel and not getting their legendary lock. I’m a fan of Spyderco’s liner lock knives.

The ramlock knife looks interesting but the method of closing it makes me nervous lol.

There are several videos showing the strength and reliability of the Ti-lite lock.

Lynn Thompson has repeatedly explained that the lock of the Ti-lite is designed so that if it should fail, that it will fail in a way that prevents the knife from closing (it bends inward). Multiple torture videos demonstrate this.

I've read that Lynn Thompson has said that there isn't room in the Ti-lite for a Triad lock (pic below). It is after all a stiletto, which is classically a slender knife.

In the video below, Mr. Thompson says that the two knives he carries the most are a 5.5" Vaquero, and a Ti-lite 6 (at 2:27). So apparently Mr. Thompson really likes the Ti-lite 6 and has faith in the Ti-lite lock. But hey, what does he know ;) .
