I picked up a Cold Steel spear point machete a while back. It was on sale for about $12 at a local sports shop. I didn't really care for the double edged tip design but for $12 who cares right?
After reworking the cruddy factory edge I thought that if I were to cut off some of the tip that it may improve the "feel" of the machete and since I already disliked the weird tip, what could it hurt right?
I discovered that after slicing the end off at an angle (I like my cane knives), if I were to make one more cut then I could utilize the spear point as an actual spear tip to keep in my camp pack. 2 tools for the price of one? Hell yeah!
Check it out.
I repainted the blade on the mackete after adding a more convex edge to it (keeping it cool with water between sandings) and I made the spear tip sheath out of an old Gerber Profile sheath I had laying around.
The machete sheath is the original from CS but cut shorter & re-wrapped in heavy fabric and waterproof spray glue to ad some stiffness with a few grommets in the end for a lanyard.
I can honestly say that this is now one of my favorite choppers of all time. I haven't had the chance to use the spear yet but when I do I'll be sure and get pics.
