It's inexpensive, tough, and comes with a light thin cordura sheath featuring two snap closures. The sheath opens along the spine and basically falls off the machete when the snaps release. The sheath does have a sewn on loop for belt carry. Even though the material itself is thin, all the features of the sheath are functional, but just barely. The grip\handle is rock hard plastic and the texturing is rough on the hands without gloves. Otherwise the handle fits well in a large hand. This machete is light and easy to carry with a tip\forward balance, which helps in chopping. It came as dull as a political speech and had unbalanced sloppy grinds. It is sturdier than I expected and is surprisingly stiff when it comes to side flexing. I gave it a quickie sharpening job and started to whack wood. It chopped moderately well with a rough edge. I have since resharpened this machete and put a twenty degree edge along each side of the primary cutting belly, to the tip. It is now very sharp and should go through light branches like butter. I bought it as a beater to slash river bottom brush and I have complete confidence that it will perform well at this task. I took one of the branches home as a juicy piece of fatwood.

Very cool. I just found one of these machetes that I had forgotten I bought.
I bought it as a beater, and I need to get out and give it a try. Thanks for the review.

You could have been talking about my non-Magnum model! I had the same problems with the factory edge you reported. I also had a problem with the black readily coming off the blade while trying to remove the Cold Steel sticker. I used a little 91% isopropyl alcohol to loosen the adhesive holding the sticker on and ended up wiping off the "paint" very freely. I did not expect the blade to be chemically dyed black, but I expected it to come of with use, not a solvent:barf:

Come spring, my machete is going to work on what will be my garden patch, so it is suited to the task. I just don't know if it deserves "khukuri" as part of the name as it is no where as robust as what I've head of in khukuri forums. Nonetheless, it is fairly priced for a backyard garden tool. If you think of it in those terms, and are willing to properly sharpen it, it is not a bad blade.

Actually Buddy I have seen some pretty darn positive reviews on the Tube etc. about your model. It's a tough little monkey. I had to chuckle though when you mentioned the grinds and paint. I used a solvent also to remove the sticker and zip, off came my coating. :D I don't mind though because this one is going to get the Neanderthal treatment. No molly coddling it. I do feel that it is going to work out fine for me with slashing river brush as it took a dead tree down and shows no ill effects. I know that CS has a tough rep around here for various reasons and I did this precisely because there is so little said about this machete. Have fun with yours buddy, because I know that I will with mine.
