Maybe I make a fool of myself but I ask anyway...
I have what I think is an early Cold steel Magnum Tanto with a raised spine...
What was the purpose with that? Nowadays I think all of Cold Steels Tantos have a plain spine...

Not sure of the purpose, but it replicated how katanas were made. In the 1988 brochure it says "traditional ridge on the blade back", and the COA for the Emperor Collection says "bears the distinctive sword ridge back".

I wonder if it was for strength or when hit with another sword it could possibly make it glance off with out breaking the sword when hit. Hmm! I'm not sure really just thinking on it some.

I used to have the Master Tanto with those fittings/stainless like yours that I sold around here to someone. I can't recall but I don't believe it was domed at all and similar to my brass fittings Master Tanto.
