Cold steel master hunter cpm 3v

For the money it's a darn good knife. I've never seen a handle fail, but they do have good customer service. Once you get past the hype...

Yeah very hyped kills tons of cardboard and rope amd pigs and cars etc hehe but looks as a good knife.

Buying one in december from lamnia.com as i live in norway

Handled one today. Was impressed withbthe fit and finish. Ffg is nice, plunge lines even, even distal taper, coating was smooth and even, sharpenig job was good. Sharpening choil was perfectly placed.

Handle is a little on the large size in relation to the knife but maybe i am just not used to small knives.

Jupp cant wait just hope i can afford it in december as everything costs more here in norway

On amazon I saw a review of a guy who took a huge chunk out of the blade while battoning
Not sure I want the Chinese heat treat

Its an extremely thin FFG. I wouldn't really recommend it for batoning.

Only a fool would try to use one for batoning.

Interesting response....is this because it's designated a hunter, blades too short or battening a knife is foolish in your opinion?

I don't have one but it just doesn't seem that unreasonable from reading the specs - 3/16th of cpm3v.

I think you can baton with it but it's really not designed for it, the new 3v version (although the steel is tougher) with the strong taper even less than the San mai III version. I don't say that you can't use it as a camp-, utility- or whatever knife but I think if you're planning to thrash it with a baton there are (cold steel)knives that are better for this type of work

The specs don't mention the strong distal taper or thin overall grind. The 3/16th is measured right at the heel, after that it thins out rapidly.

Thanks for the reply guy's, with Saddens response I can see why you might choose not to go hog wild with the baton. Sounds like a knife I would like, thin grind and I find 3v to be a nice, aggressive cutter, good combo.

As is the way it should be, IMO. People seem to forget that knives are supposed to cut things, and there are a number of tools specifically designed for wood splitting.

If it is 3v at 61-62 Rc I would not beat it to hard. I am pretty sure 3v does not like Rc over 58. This is what I have heard. Although I would expect a 3/16" knife to be fairly stout, it is all about geometry and if it is to thin, that could be a problem.

Based on what people are saying about the blade geometry and hardness, it sounds like it was designed with game processing in mind.

Hmmmmmmmmmmnnnnnnnnnnnnnn...:D
