Does this knife feature a full tang? I am looking into a knew hunting knife, and I believe this is a necessity. Also, how is the steel on this knife? VG-1 San MAi III?
San Mai 3 is a laminate of VG-1 and some softer steel. It's what you'd expect from a laminate. Pretty tough and it takes a very fine cutting edge. You won't have any problems with it.
I love the master hunter. Its not only a great hunting knife but also serves well as a general use/camp knife. I have been quite happy with the San Mai III Steel. It takes a very nice edge that holds up well. I have a few in the original Carbon V and they are very nice also. Here is the tang on a master hunter:
