The Cold Steel Mini AK-47 was my first "expensive knife". I received mine for Christmas in 2011. The knife was shaving sharp out of the box.
It was light, but didnt feel cheap. The G10 is very grippy, and all of the corners of the handles are rounded off nicely for a smooth feeling grip.
The finger holes are in the PERFECT spots, and there is jimping on the handle. The jimping is present, but isnt very aggressive, and doesnt do much.
(it looks good though
)
The black coating looks great. For about 2-3 weeks of use. Then, it starts to come off. It doesnt look bad though either way.
The thumb plate is AWESOME! It waves off from ANYTHING perfectly. After about 10-15 minutes of practicing, it can be waved from your pocket without even thinking about it. (just in case somewhat doesnt understand what that means, waving a knife is when a knife has a feature that opens the knife when it is snagged on something, like your pocket.)
Because of this wave, the clip is tip-up ONLY, with an extra left-handed clip included in the box, which is needed because of the bend in the clip shape.
The clip is also coated.....
The pommel is in 6061 aluminum.
The blade length is 2.91 inches (let's just say 3 inches
)
The tip is nice, but seems delicate.
There is ABSOLUTELY NO BLADEPLAY WHATSOEVER! Thanks to the awesome tri-ad-lock.
The one seen in the pictures here is my second one. My first mini ak had to be sent in, because the inner lock-spring moved, and got the bar stuck on the stop-pin. I have only ever heard of this happening one other time, so dont let this sway you from purchase.
The knife isnt big, but the contours and color can be intimidating to non-knife people, and therefore should be taken into consideration when using in public.
(COMPARED TO A ZIPPO, AND A SPYDERCO TENACIOUS)
Overall, this knife is awesome. i like everything about it, even the AUS8-A steel. It is built like a tank, and way overbuilt. 9/10
