I was wondering how these compare to other knives and how the AUS-8 holds up? I have never owned any cold steel knives, but thinking of picking one up..
Mine is ridiculously smooth and easy flick open or unlock - it was out the box but even more a couple days later after use and cycling it about 100 times while watching the kids play or something on netflix. Think the blade tang being nicely polished from the factory, and the dual teflon and bronze washers, makes a big difference.
2nd or 3rd day I had it I put a dot of nail polish at the top of the pivot screw and a dot on the handle right above it to see if it will loosen at all when giving it a really good work out or the first few days. The one morning I spent 10-15 minutes doing drills on a man-sized double thick box of cardboard then compared it to a old stand-by standard Victorinox SAK making notches and shaving wood for a little while then slicing up a large piece of old scrap leather.
The two knives the day I got the Mini
Sliced and cut very well for how stout the little blade is and still shaved arm hair after. The SAK would before but not after - even though all it did was the wood and leather.
with the 3.5mm thick tanto tip, it sure is a tank!
I believe they had a dark grey stonewash, but I didn't do it with paint stripper like others have, I just sanded it all off. Hardest part was sanding the rocker bar
Comparing to crkt for example. Cold steel aus 8 is def harder and holds an edge than their Aus8 and some other brands
However still not as well as 154cm or s30v (as far as going dull is concerned)
