I have done a search and have only come up with a few new threads when the knife came out, it has been a couple months now and I'm wondering what are people's takes on it so far.

How does it compare to the mini lawman, mini ak, and med voyager?. It looks to be the most ergonomic of all 4.

I am also considering this over the mini griptilian. They are currently at the same price. I know they are tools with someone different purposes, as the grip has a less heavy duty lock/pivot but a much better blade steel, where as the recon is jsut the opposite. Also the Recon is much heavier, 1oz that is.

I like the blade shape of my Recon 1 Spearpoint but the black paint looks cheap compared to the stone-washed Voyager. (But the Voyager is cheaper and probably a better buy.)

The Recon's scales are a somewhat rough G10 vs. a smooth Valox on the 556 Mini Grip.

Compared to the Mini Grip, the Recon I will take up quite a bit more space in your pocket.

The Mini Grip is smaller. It also feels more expensive. I'm surprised if it and the Recon 1 are the same price.

And, of course, the locks couldn't be more different. I personally prefer the Axis. How important is it to you that the Tri-Ad may be stronger? What are you planning to do with these knives?

If you have a local dealer, I recommend trying the CS models in person. I liked the looks of the unpainted Voyager but the ones I tried all had locks that were too stiff for my thumb. For some reason, I had no such issues with the locks on the Recon 1s. YMMV and probably will.

I hope this helps. These are all fine knives. Have fun looking.

It is the most ergonomic 3" folder out there that I have ever put my hands on.

And one thing I really like is that the blade is wide and thick. This allows the grind to be more gradual. I love both of mine

It's a very good design and smallest I would personally go, it's light enough that being any lighter wouldn't make any difference. I carry the Spearpoint Mini Recon 1 behind my wallet in my front pocket at work and never think about it. G-10 isn't aggressive at all in my opinion but it's nice with sweaty or wet hands.

The blade steel is fine in my opinion - with a nice edge you can whittle some wood, cut some cardboard, leather, plastic, etc. and still shave - when it can't shave no more just strop it on a leather belt for 10 seconds and shave again.

Opens and closes very smooth and a good chance you won't have fit and finish or lock-up issues a lot of people mention with $100+++ folders. I think it's a good pick for a smaller "never know what the day will bring" folder.
