Cool story on this knife. It was gifted to me when I was 4 years old after I had a life threatening accident involving me and 2 glass doors, ha! As I sat in the hospital bed, an uncle of mine brought this knife to me as a gift. Who gifts a four year old a knife?? Of course, my parents kept it and would only let me see it about once a year. I stared at it with awe for all of the 15 seconds I got to see it. I maybe got to hold it once or twice in the span of 10 years.

Forward 20 years. I camp about 70% of my free time and was looking for a knife when I remembered this one was somewhere in my moms house. She sent it to me a couple of weeks ago and I am a very happy camper haha.

Just bought a King 1000/6000 grit stone to sharpen it. I made the mistake of taking it to bass pro shop to get it sharpened. Realized the guy didnt know what he was doing when he only sharpened one part of the blade and left the point-area dull. I don't know if he messed it up but I am sure you guys will. It was free so I can't complain too much.

I would like to have someone who knows how to sharpen to sharpen it for the first time. I would want to practice on some other tantos before messing with this one. Too much sentimental value.

Anyone know someone in the Atlanta area that is skilled at sharpening knives (tantos)? It would be very much appreciated.

There are plenty of members here who should be able to sharpen this for you.

Ask member TLEsharp, he does sharpening if I'm not mistaken.

Glass doors, and those vertical windows next to doors sure are dangerous.

My great grandmother's house had this vertical yellow stained glass window next to the door ( we lived there for a while looking for an apartment when I was 9 ) and one day my mom slipped on the wheelchair ramp going right through it. This was deffinately life threatening as she severed arteries in her arm losing 4 pints of blood and she was actually dead for a minute but was thankfully brought back to life.
My mom only went through 1 small window, so I can only imagine what could happen to a 4 year old who went through two.
I'd say that knife was sure a great gift especially for a boy in the hospital, you may have been a bit young for such a knife but I'm sure it lifted your spirits a bit to know it was waiting for you when you were old enough.
Maybe he figured it would give you a good reason to get through this whole thing.

Those little tantos are somewhat rare and hard to find. It looks like the guy didn't mess up the edge too awful bad from what I can see.

Woah, what a story. I guess we went through something very similar. Glad she also made it through. There was a piece of glass that punctured my chest and was going straight for the heart, but it hit one of the bones that protects it and missed by an inch or two. Phew.

I guess I can see now why he thought it was a good idea. I can now say, it was a great idea. It inspired me and I gifted my younger brother a knife. I am 25 and he is 13. Thanks for the recommendation for sharpening. I will look him up.

You're definitely got pretty lucky, and good on you for gifting your brother a knife.
