Cold Steel Model Progression Question....

So, I picked up a new Rajah III BD-1 Serrated. Love the knife. So I posted in another thread that I like the grip texture and was told that the newer ones have a grippier one. So I was looking at pics and as I already knew the AUS-8 ones had a bead blasted finish, and the BD-1 blades are stone washed as mine are. So looking at Cold Steels site, they show the Rajah III with my handle, but the blade is marked BD-1 with the newer Cold Steel Logo that is on my American Lawman. So I have a stonewashed blade with the old logo and grip texture. So I take it this is from the first run of BD-1's, or did they make a stonewashed AUS-8? Also I see the serrated Rajah III is no longer listed on CS's site.

Yes, I guess that the last generation of the Aus-8A Rajah IIIs were stone-washed.

I think it states this in the 2014 catalog too.

They are supposed to be marked regarding the major steel upgrades that happened in 2015.

Some of them didn't get properly marked on the blade, but they used a sticker on the box to mark it there.

Another way to find out whether the model is BD1 vs AUS8A is the location of the lockbar pivot.

Refer to the picture below, notice the new one on top has the lockbar pivot pin located further away from the lockbar cutout, while the one at the bottom is closer the the cutout. The one at the bottom is an AUS8A version despite having stonewashed finish. They move the location of the lockbar pivot further away from the cutout to make the lockbar easier to depress. It's basically moving the fulcrum point.

You can also check out this video of Jimislash explaining it:

Source: i own both versions, including old beat blasted AUS8A one.

So in the image below and according to the vid....The top is AUS-8 and Bottom is BD-1?

See bolded in quote.

Yes.. i meant to say top is aus8 and bottom is bd1. Top is bot, bot it top, top os bo...

So the new ones are also shipping with the rougher texture....Is it as brutal as the Voyager or Recons? I was thinking of getting a plain edge as I like this design so much.....

Nice to see that the newer grip textured versions are shipping. Looks like time for me to get another big one.
