Does anybody know where to find a hollow ground American Lawman new?? I was unaware that they switched to a flat grind and I really really want to get one with a hollow grind so if anybody knows any dealers still carrying the older version please let me know

It's very annoying to have such grind modifications in knives from Cold Steel. The Lawman used to be hollow and now it's flat. The AD-10 used to be hollow and now it's flat.
I bet it's less expensive to do a flat grind and that's why they switched. But it's dishonest to have a first batch of hollow AD-10 in order to receive initial good reviews on YouTube and then suddenly switch to flat grinds.

There is a lawman in xhp on Amazon. Hollowground on knifecenter s35vn. Says Hollowground on bladehq. What's the problem?

I think your best bet is asking the companies that stock them what grind they are. If you dont like that, Order from places with a return policy maybe? Good luck!

Cold Steel's website still describes the American Lawman as hollow ground -- as is mine in CTS-XHP. Great knife. I wouldn't reject it even if it was flat ground, though -- my Spydies are all flat ground and cut great.

My CTS-XHP Lawman and my S35VN Lawman are both flat ground.

I saw where it said hollow on bladehq but as far as i can tell from the picture it looks flat to me. I have no problem with flat I just want a hollow ground blade for my current job since I am gonna be using it alot and sharpening alot so I dont want it to thicken behind the edge. I was wanting the lawman but thought about the ad10 instead but apparently its now flat ground too. It really is disingenuous to change grinds like that especially on so many models (3 ive seen so far). Yet another thing cold steel has done that is questionable.

From the American Lawman i had that was hollow ground, it's a very shallow hollow grind and I wouldn't expect it to perform noticeably different from a flat grind, unless they made the flat grind obtuse at the edge.

For a slight alternative but very similar knife, the goldeneye is hollow ground that the feel in hand is very reminiscent of the American Lawman I had before it. I actually like the goldeneye more as I've really taken a liking to the opening mechanism.

Can you spot the difference at the ricasso?

Call them and confirm or something before you buy

Any of my hollow grind CS knives were very shallow. It almost appears to be flat. There’s probably not any noticeable difference in cutting pwrfo

It seems that flat grinds are the in thing, which may be a reason for the change. I like both, each have their purposes.

My understanding is that CS changed the grind on the Recon1 to increase the strength of the blade. I presume that is the reason for the change in the American Lawman. Look for an AL on the exchange with xhp steel. The last ones were flat ground, but all before those were hollow ground.
The cutting performance for the two is about the same. The flat ground seems to be ground very thin. I ll bet you can sharpen the flat ground AL a lot before you will need to thin the blade grind.

Pretty sure that's because they never updated the picture or listing. I'm pretty sure that I bought mine from them and it was flat ground.
OP had trouble discerning even from the pictures. Maybe if he contacts the dealer, they can go in the back and find a hollow ground one.

Yea from what I can see the grind transition above the ricasso looks different in the two photos. I wish bladehq had better pictures. Thanks for pointing that out. Tomorrow is Monday so Im gonna start calling around to some different dealers and see if any have some hollow ground lawmans left in back stock. Hopefully I will get lucky.

But didnt they go from XHP with hollow to XHP with flat, Then S35 with hollow to S35 with flat? if They were doing it to strengthen the blade why do any of the S35 in hollow? Just seems sneaky to me.

I don't think they've ever done an S35VN model in hollow. The change in steel was made after the change in grind.
