Cold Steel Natchez Bowie

I had one and sent it back to the distributer. The Knife is HUGE! I was expecting it to be a scaled up version of the trail master however it on an totally different scale. I found the knife to heavy and large for any type of practical application. I have smaller hands and found I had to choke the handle up to the hilt to have any type of grip. I went back and purchased a R1 instead.

I have one. It is huge but that's why I bought it. It came razor sharp out of the box but the clip angles are very obtuse and subsequently dull. The materials and workmanship are first rate with one small flaw. At the junction of the guard and blade, there's a tiny, thin bit of what I think is epoxy. For it's size, it's not that heavy and feels pretty agile to me. The point is a needle and hooks upward, so a back cut should be devastating if you judge the distance right and use just the tip. The lamination line is very noticeable and very cool. If they had designed the clip to be sharp (or able to be sharpened), it would be perfect bowie.

For its size the Natchez moves pretty well. The clip doesn't need to be real sharp for delivering an effective backcut, and all the Natchez clips are done by hand, so each will be a little different. I like it. A well known author/trainer friend of mine likes his better than a custom Bowie he had made to his specs (he also loves a Musso, favoring mass over speed). I've now done at least 8 Southern Comforts for the Natchez Bowie (each are individually fitted to the knife) so have handled a number of them, and they were all well executed.
